Defreni (994), Frederiksberg, Denmark Apr 25, 2008 Dåse: Kulsort øl der fylder glasset på en yderst indbydende måde. En anelse frugt i duften, men den kraftige brændte smag træder ikke frem i den. Fantastisk øl, virkelig en stunner. toddkrem (78), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Apr 25, 2008 Pitch black with brown head. Tastes roasty with a good balance of bitterness and sweetness. Not too sweet like Exhebition Stout. Overall very good beer. MadMan (497), Tempe, Arizona, USA Apr 24, 2008 Can. Known more appropriately as the beer that may kill me. I’m drinking a ton of this stuff. Normally I’d not put this much imperial stout down my throat on a regular basis, but for some reason I can’t stop drinking these. Pours pretty much black with a very uneven and rocky brown head. Aroma is full of chocolate and malt with a fair amount of roastiness. Flavor has hints of coffee, tons of cocoa, chocolate, and roasted malt flavors. Finish packs a nice bitter punch and an alcohol warmth. A fairly creamy mouthfeel with moderate carbonation coming through in the end. I love it. jeffc666 (1886), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Apr 23, 2008 Maybe it is just that I have not had a good Imperial Stout in a long time, or maybe it is the nostalgia that I feel when seeing the inky blackness of this stuff escaping the orifice of a metal can. A sight that conjures for me, memories of my dad pouring motor oil out of a can into one of our cars during the frequent home oil changes of my childhood. Regardless, this is a fine beer. Certainly this is one of the finest looking beers I have ever seen. The head is gorgeous and the absolutely opacity adds to the eye-candy. The flavor and aroma are almost perfect, the flavor more so than the aroma. The palate is a tad light for the style, but IMO this just lends to the stunningly drinkability of this beer. BeerBelcher (930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Apr 23, 2008 This was a good imperial stout, and by far the most drinkable one I can remember ever having. Thanks to SurlySober for bringing some cans back from VA in his wooden leg. As he surmised, if you were going to drink an imperial stout every day, this would be the one to have. I’d add that if you were looking for an imperial stout that got close to "sessionable," this would be it.
Appearance was black and thick with a minimal tan head. Aroma was surprisingly floral to me; in addition to the usual aromas for this style (roastiness, coffee, etc) I got something that approached lavender. Flavor was hoppy and roasty and good, but not all that unusual - chalk this criticism up to how much I’ve heard about this beer prior to having. Mouthfeel was smooth and slick but a bit flat.
This is a really nice and drinkable beer. I would highly recommend it. kyzr (1119), Belgrade, Montana, USA Apr 22, 2008 Can thanks to CaptainCougar. Pitch black pour with nice sized frothy thick brown head. Nose of roasted coffee, malt and a touch of bittersweet chocolate. Flavor is slightly toasted hints of nuts, big with chocolate and a nice espresso finish. Texture is perfect with a nice creamy finish that has a nice touch of hops. LtJudge (431), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Apr 22, 2008 Pours a nice thick black color with a thick dark tan head. Aromas of sweet coffee, chocolate, and roasted malts. Flavor is of coffee, sweet roasted malts, chocolate and hints of toffee and vanilla. Great bitter aftertaste. And all this from a can! Awesome! Thanks Brewblackhole!. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Apr 22, 2008 Can (12oz). Shared with garthicus, courtesy of blankboy. Pours like motor oil, thick, impenetrable black with a creamy dark brown head (5-). Aroma - burnt treacle, dry wheat, nut oil, hessian, mild peat. Taste - incredibly bitter, thick burnt malt body, long medium alcohol-bitter finish. Thick, slick, astringent and incredibly bitter. Lovely - thanks, Paul!
