garthicus (1216), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 22, 2008 Updated: Apr 23, 2008Shared with HogTownHarry, Harrys can (Blankboys can to Harry!), I cannot give enough thanks! Appearance: Used engine oil, whispy brown head, sticks to the sides of the glass almost when swirled. Aroma: Coffee, port, cocao, coconut, malt, turf and peat. Flavour: Wow, like drinking a glass of burning turf, amazing, cream, coffee, bitter, sweet, bitter again! Doesn’t quite feel like 9.4% but there is some alcohol there, incredible. Long burning smokey finish. Mmm mmmm mmm Thanks Harry! PorterPounder (3132), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Apr 22, 2008 Tallahassee, Fl. - Liquor Loft, 12 oz can. Pours a jet black motor oil like, with a dark purple tint - dark mocha colored head, medium thickness, faint traces of
lace. Aroma of dark chocolate, cold bitter day old coffee. Flavor brings out
some dark espresso, baker’s chocolate, fresh potting soil - excellent cold weather sipping brew. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel, almost like a milkshake. Have not had a bad one yet from the Oskar Blues folks. legion242 (1572), Richardson, Texas, USA Apr 21, 2008 Though I am stoked that these guys are comign to Texas and apprecaite what they are doing in regards to canning, I just think it is really counter productive to can an impy stout. That being said, I thought this one was just sorta pedestrian. 4-19-08, thanks to mar. sinkr (212), Lusby, Maryland, USA Apr 21, 2008 Can->snifter: Pours a large, rocky, dark brown head that exhibits good lacing on top of a muddy, black body. The aroma is of molasses, caramel, and grain with the hops being floral and the yeast being like horse blanket. The body is full, the texture is thick, and the finish is astringent. The taste is moderately sweet and lightly acidic and bitter, finishing like sour milk.
An excellent thick beer; I found it to be great from a snifter, but as well from a can, especially if you wanna feel like you’re slumming it. jefcon (997), Arlington, Virginia, USA Apr 20, 2008 True to it’s billing, this imperial stout from a can pours like motor oil. It’s thick and viscous. Unusually alarming aromas of sweet fruit, figs, cherries and cinnamon buns. Palate is milkshake-thick, with a hot, medium-length finish. Flavors of coffee, roast, and bitter wood. Veer (355), Landskrona, Sweden Apr 20, 2008 Aroma: mm, nice, oily, coffee, LOVELY, liquorice, almonds, sourish, smoky, salty. DAMN good.
Flavour: sourish, sweetish-brackish, malty-roasted, dough, long afterbitterness.
Palate: soft, velvety, big & silky.
Appearance: ridiculously dark brown [i.e. black] w/ brown, superfine foamy head. jehoey (766), Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 20, 2008 poured black and looked as think as motor oil coming from the can. The head builds very nicely and is dark brown, making the beer look reminicent of chocolate mouse. aroma was nice, roasted, big, with some chocolate and coffee. Flavor was much of the same, big chocholate flavors, toffee, coffee, nuts, and a good bitterness coming through. mouthfeel was thick and delicious with soft carbonation. great imperial stout gunhaver (1024), Tampa, Florida, USA Apr 20, 2008 Updated: Jun 5, 2008Can, courtesy beastiefan2k. Not a great start to drinking this beer, as my white shirt got sprayed with a black-as-night imperial stout upon cracking open the can. Oh well. Pours as black as mentioned, with wet lacing, and a bubbly, well-carbonated head. Smoky aroma and roasted coffee. Toffee, too. Chocolate is rich and tells me that this is going to be delicious. Roasted, thick, juicy, chewy malts. Yummy. Big on smoke and coffee. And a delightful, well-balanced hoppy aftertaste. Drinking this beer is like chewing on braids of caramel and taffy. Roasted finish stays in the mouth for hours, maybe days. Very good, and way too drinkable, too. Awesome!
