This titanic, immensely viscous stout is loaded with inimitable flavors of chocolate-covered caramel and coffee and hide a hefty 98 IBUs underneath the smooth blanket of malt. Ten FIDY (10.5% ABV) is made with enormous amounts of two-row malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, flaked oats and hops. Ten FIDY is the ultimate celebration of dark malts and boundary-stretching beer.

Bottle @ ZEBF 2015. Finally I caught the legendary Ten Fidy, it was bound to be a let down. It’s a solid ris with some coffee. I understand why a lot of people like it, but it’s just too decent and middle of the road to be really great.

Thick as oil and dark as night as the name suggests. Subtle thin Milk chocolate head. Stout lovers stout. This is one of few standard go-to stouts for me because it is big and bold. Aroma is present but not big and includes dark fruit, roasted coffee and dark chocolate. The taste is complex and long with the afore mentioned notes plus leather and earth. The IBUs are big making the finish even to the start, big all the way through and awesome.

Oskar Blues Ten FIDY has a thin, beige head and a dark brown (black, really) appearance, with some splotchy lacing left on the glass. The aroma and flavor are bold: the smell is of sweet, dark-roasted (but, not burnt) malt, sugar, and coffee, and the flavor is of those elements, with a touch of char, sugar, oatmeal puree’, mild black liquorice, background celery, and bitterness, which being counter-balanced by the extreme malt, does not come across as a 98 IBU thing. Mouthfeel is heavy and viscous, and Oskar Blues Ten FIDY finishes in between wet and dry, with an alcohol presence noticeable in the body, but not so much in the flavor. Actually, not at all in the flavor, really. RJT

12 fl oz (355ml) can. Pours black in colour with a brown foam head leaving lacing. Aroma of chocolatey malt, caramel, fruity hop. Taste is roast malt, chocolate, coffee, treacle, sweetish, plus some boozy earthy dark fruity & woody, pine, grassy bitterness. Thick oily mouthfeel, full bodied, soft carbonation, dry roast bitter boozy finish. Very drinkable.

Serving: Oskar Blues Ten FIDY ’13 from tap at Brouwer’s Cafe.. Aroma: leather, smoke and licorice. Appearance: small, light-brown, initial head with no lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Dark-brown body. Taste: heavily sweet, raisin initial flavor and finish with average duration. Palate: full bodied with syrupy texture and soft carbonation. Overall:

2013 vintage in 2015. APPEARANCE - super black pour. Upon swirling in the glass, the beer’s viscosity becomes evident. NOSE - deep aroma and flavor, sweet slightly alcoholic aromas. FLAVOR - thoroughly flavorful stout. Deep and rich flavors. You know the rest, because there are over 2200 ratings. NOTES - Deserves accolades, but I don’t think it’s a 100 beer.
