This titanic, immensely viscous stout is loaded with inimitable flavors of chocolate-covered caramel and coffee and hide a hefty 98 IBUs underneath the smooth blanket of malt. Ten FIDY (10.5% ABV) is made with enormous amounts of two-row malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, flaked oats and hops. Ten FIDY is the ultimate celebration of dark malts and boundary-stretching beer.

Earthy aroma of roasted malts, dark and milk chocolate, and tar. I don’t know why I felt it was so weak -- had to inhale deeply to make it out. The taste is bitter, roasted, and earthy, not very sweet at all. The finish is dry and roasted. The alcohol is only slightly perceived. I was expecting more.

8/2013 Vintage. Pours jet black with a dark brown head. Aroma is of chocolate and coffee. Very thick on the palate but very creamy chocolate going down. The alcohol at this point has subsided and is just really smooth. However when its fresh this beer is still amazing.

Draught at BrewDog Clapham Junction’s opening night; 13 August. Poured a thick black, with a dense tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, rich malt and liquorice. Mouthfeel was syrupy. Complex flavours of molasses, port and dates. Finish was earthy, with some grain, red wine and straw.

Experiment here, this is canned 09-21-11 (also says CHARLIE MURPHY!) and drank 8-26-14 so almost 3yrs old. A 10/5% imperial stout should normally age quite well and mellow out depending on the hop characteristics in the beer lets see. 12oz can pours a dark black in glass with foamy brown head quick to dissipate. Still smells pretty alcoholy, roasted malts, somehow reminds me of french fries, from McDonald’s. Heavy bodied with light carbonation that is noticeably still there. This drinks amazingly well at 10.5% after 3 yrs. Malty chocolate taste is about all there is, no alcohol burn whatsoever. At the finish I could see how this might pack an alcoholy punch. But this one taste great well recommended.

2010: beige dense head that disappears quite fast. coffee coloured. aroma is umami, soy, sweet, coffee boozy. taste like aroma. quite dense and creamy body, medium carbonation. 2014: beige dense head disappears fast too. coffee coloured. aroma is coffee. taste is coffee, grassy, earthy. quite dense body. rating is for 2010, i like it a bit more with some oxidised notes.

Absolutely black light brown lacing foam. Bitter chocolate aroma, bitter cold coffee taste, some chocolate notes, little cheese. Lasting coffee aftertaste. (Houston 201408)

Poured an opaque black with a dense light grown head that hung around nicely. Strong coffee aroma with some chocolate in the background, also getting some raisiny notes. Very little hop aroma. Coffee and chocolate dominate the taste, with a firm bitterness from both hops and roasted malts coming through in the finish. Dark fruits coming through as it warms. Finishes a little sweet.

4 oz draft pour shared by solidfunk at ChurchKey during their Sierra Nevada Beer Camp event. 2013 keg. Aromas of light booze, dark fruit, chocolate, roast, light caramel. Tastes of chocolate, roast, caramel, light dark fruit. Medium body with a dry finish. Prefer this one fresh I think.

Pour from can. Dark, dark brown with cinnamon colored head that quickly recedes. Nose of dark chocolate, roasted malt. Taste of bitter coffee, a little chocolate, some hops and a little too much alcohol on the finish. It's good, but not an elite imperial stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz. can. Pours a black color with a thin, deep tan head that doesn’t stick around for long. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, alcohol and a touch of oak. Full bodied, it tastes of all of the above. Slightly warming, it leaves with a dry finish. Great beer!
