COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This titanic, immensely viscous stout is loaded with inimitable flavors of chocolate-covered caramel and coffee and hide a hefty 98 IBUs underneath the smooth blanket of malt. Ten FIDY (10.5% ABV) is made with enormous amounts of two-row malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, flaked oats and hops. Ten FIDY is the ultimate celebration of dark malts and boundary-stretching beer.

Can. Pours dense thick pitch black with lasting creamy tan head, crazy lacing. Aroma has quite some sweetness at first, s’mores and vanilla, fudge, yammy caramel and toffee. Then comes all the malty and rustiness. Milk chocolate, cocoa, some coffee and abundance of sweet oats and roast barely. Some burn sugar and burnt figs along sherry notes. Taste is more up front roasty and bitter. Dark chocolate, coffee, smooth oats, roast barley, bitter malts, hard roast, figs, vanilla. Goes from roasty to sweet milk chocolate to end out in roasty bitter finish. Slight salty and has some port and sherry sweetness, alså slight red mellow apple fruitiness. Body is super smooth oaty, and no sight of the abv. Very smooth and creamy, do suit the roast very well. This is good.

I’m not a big stout fan but this one is pretty typical of your imperial stouts. From someone who doesn’t normally drink stouts I’d drink it again so I’d give it above average ratings but not what I’d say is a "must drink" for me. Very popular stout, though, and I heard a lot of people rave about it while in Denver.

UPDATED: AUG 9, 2015 Don’t get me wrong, all the weight & balance of an above average imperial stout are there in Ten Fidy, except I can’t get past a hint of Ivory bar soap throughout the whole experience. My guess it could be the can metal/lining chemical reaction effecting the brew. The hint of Ivory bar soap might not be present if Ten Fidy was glass bottled. Perhaps Oscar Blues uses aluminum cans as an excuse which is what I got in an Iceland reply to my complaint on this issue. Cans are a matter of convenience effecting taste, always has been, always will be. That Oskar Blues management guy who emailed me back from Iceland (must have been on holiday and still conducting business) used queer logic about how glass bottles are inferior to aluminum cans. I replied that’s true about green bottles only and he never responded again. Oskar Blues is all about marketing and Lefty causes when it should get it’s head on straight with a glass bottled option.
