When I started to pour this beer, I thought I just opened a can of 10w30.......holy crap was it black! Amazing head that started off very dark brown, then lightened up as the beer warmed. Big aromas of chocolate, toffee, oak, smoke, and fresh ground coffee. Nice smooth, creamy mouth feel. Thanks for this one man!! DaSilky1 (2033), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 27, 2008 Draft (Hamiltons): Blackish color, dark brown, lacy, fully large head. Chocolate nose, slightly smoky, milky, and interestingly earthy with a hint of dried fruit. Creamy/Milky mouthfeel with hoppy bitterness strongly riding along. Flavors of coffee and chocolate but a bit muddled by the high hop profile...I like the malt profile, but it’s really hard to get a clear picture of it. Need to down the damn hops. cbkschubert (2029), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA

Nice, thick lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, light chocolate, and faint smoke. Flavor is roasted malt, chocolate, and light coffee. Palate is very smooth, but has a slight bitter, dry aftertaste. Medium body. An excellent beer. Best canned beer ever! Thanks Jeff. sliffy (2012), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 3, 2007 Hand bottle shared by butters and OhioDad at C-Bus 6: Black pour with a creamy tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, some coffee, and some earthy notes. Flavor, very roasty, some nice chocolate, and a really nice, earthy, roasted bitterness to it. I’m usually not a fan of really hoppy Imperials, but this was quite good. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA

Pours black as oil with a small brown head in a snifter. Oats, chocolate, cocoa powder and something creamy almost like peanut butter, in the nose. Taste was dry baking chocolate, bittersweet cocoa powder, some creamy oats, but drying. Body was thick, creamy and oily, yet quite drying in the finish making for a unique experience on the palate. Mild bitterness, alcohol was very well hidden, and a slight chalky aftertaste. A great roasty big beer all around. decaturstevo (2010), decatur, Tennessee, USA

A strong aroma of roasted malt and chocolate coffy. Solid flavor of burnt malt and very lite hint of the abv. A bitter that just contiues to gron on you. A smooth full palate that is not over slick and not the least bit thin. Carbonation is excellent. I can’t imagine this beer being any better fresh on tap but I’m sure it would be. thanks again keith. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 16, 2008 Pitch black with a brown head. Mild blackened malt aroma with some grassy hops. Full body with light carbonation. Big flavors of dry black malts and tobacco at first, then a nicely bitter, dryish grassy hop and alcohol twang to finish. Reminds me of Gonzo porter.
