3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thanks Mario for supplying this mini-vertical:
New release pours from can thick with a small rim of bubbles, plus chocolate and tinny hop aroma. Body is syrupy. Flat chocolate flavor and harsh roast character means this one might need to stay in the can for a year or so.
2008 vintage also has some complex tobacco aroma, thinning to body, alcohol on the nose and some welcome oxidation in lieu of some roast in the finish. (score is balance of two)

Keg at Brewdog Brum. Lovely warming qualities. It’s black. It has a slim, beige top and same colorised lacing. Taste is Baltic, with dry dark choc and some liqueur infused Quality Street. It’s really good. Or more than PRIDY good.

Snifter draft at Harold’s Inn and Restaurant in Hopewell, PA. Heavy chocolate and tastes of oak. A nice deep brown to black on appearance. Runs to the sweet side with a bitter finish.

Very bitter but not a long aftertaste for a nice dark stout. No head and strong alcoholic flavor.

Pours black. Nose is dry chocolate, coffee, syrup, roast. Taste is mocha, burnt caramel, date, licorice, some hops. Finishes with some alcohol warmth. Flavors are huge and it’s quite dry and drinkable for the style.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
It’s really good, but the almost burnt malt is a bit much. If it had a bit of dark fruit, plum/prune, I would give it closer to a perfect score. Pours great with great coffee look and cola-like foam head. Aromas of dark chocolate and roasted/burnt malts. Some slight hoppiness in there gives a nice spruce hint---but you really have to be sensitive to get even a whiff of it. Overall very nice but just falls short of perfection. I need to get one of the barrel aged versions, so maybe my local supplier will be able to get more...?

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This has to be one of the best widely available Imperial stouts. Pours with a nice dark head that quickly dissipates. Coffee strong, full bodied without being too syrupy. Little hop on the finish.
