the pour is viscous and dark, with a significant amount of thick brown foamy head. nose is rich chocolate and caramel. rich chocolate (almost like fudge) and roasted malt flavors dominate the taste, along with some caramel/molasses sweetness; coffee and licorice notes are there too, but they’re pretty minor finish is even more chocolate, trending toward bitter cocoa, and with a hint of hops.

Snifter draft at Harold’s Inn and Restaurant in Hopewell, PA. Heavy chocolate and tastes of oak. A nice deep brown to black on appearance. Runs to the sweet side with a bitter finish.

Very bitter but not a long aftertaste for a nice dark stout. No head and strong alcoholic flavor. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours black. Nose is dry chocolate, coffee, syrup, roast. Taste is mocha, burnt caramel, date, licorice, some hops. Finishes with some alcohol warmth. Flavors are huge and it’s quite dry and drinkable for the style.

It’s really good, but the almost burnt malt is a bit much. If it had a bit of dark fruit, plum/prune, I would give it closer to a perfect score. Pours great with great coffee look and cola-like foam head. Aromas of dark chocolate and roasted/burnt malts. Some slight hoppiness in there gives a nice spruce hint---but you really have to be sensitive to get even a whiff of it. Overall very nice but just falls short of perfection. I need to get one of the barrel aged versions, so maybe my local supplier will be able to get more...?

This has to be one of the best widely available Imperial stouts. Pours with a nice dark head that quickly dissipates. Coffee strong, full bodied without being too syrupy. Little hop on the finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Keg at Brewdog Shep’s Bush. Opaque black coloured pour with a steadfast creamy dark tan head. Aroma is woody earthy, nutty praline, light smoke and mineral. Palate is creamy and velvety on in tongue, smooth creamy and moderate carbonation. Full bodied. Flavour is charred woody, soft roast, creamy, nutty, praline, warming alcohol. Really good.
