UPDATED: DEC 27, 2011 Can. The pour was a deep dark muddy black with a very thin (less than 1 finger) medium brown creamy head that was fully diminishing and had excellent lacing. The aroma was of burnt cereal malts and a leathery doughy yeast with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, molasses and also had a mild alcohol scent. It tasted sweetly bitter with a moderate note of coffee at first and finished with a nice smooth bitter chocolate coffee flavor and had a slight alcohol tinge at the end. The flavor stayed with you for a nice long while after the swallow allowing one to enjoy a nice coffee mocha ending. Mouthfeel was quite full in body and very creamy in texture with basically a flat carbonation. Overall a GREAT Imperial stout, with lots of flavor and hardly any notice to the high alcohol content.

Consistenza oleosa, piena, corpo lungo.

A black beer with a medium brown head. The aroma is roasted malt, ash, and chocolate. The flavor is chocolate, roasted malt, and licorice. So thick, it’s like drinking melted ice cream.

Poured from can into snifter. Deep dark brown, with light brown head that diminishes to a ring around the top. Lots of chocolate in the nose. More sweet and bitter chocolate flavors, with a little bit of booziness evident. Almost perfect creamy feel. Really really good beer, definitely lives up to its reputation.

Simplemente Deliciosa!

This was one of the most photogenic pours I’ve ever seen. Wish I’d been ready with the camera. Out of the can into a stout glass a stream of the darkest brown liquid I’ve seen, topped with a thick, dense, chocolate brown foam. It actually flowed out of over the edges of the glass...reminiscent... The aroma is heady, thick and chocolate, accents of boozy vanilla permeate the air. First sip, second sip, third sip; extremely consistent and flavorful as hell. The taste is lightly boozy, the ABV very well screened by the drinkability of the beer, and the creamy, thick body coats my entire mouth with a nutty chocolate. The next time I buy a can of this, it will be two so that I can use one in a Ten Fidy float. Wow. The finish is beautiful, body full, and carbonation is heavy enough to carry this to a delightful end; definitely not too light to leave it flat by the end of the glass. The foam is dropping heavy into the beer after every quaff and is thick and rich, the flavor is amazing and this may actually have been worth the ridiculous price I paid for it. Yup...going back for two more.

12oz can into glass. Pitch black in hue. Weak, loose, tall head with almost a fizz that reduces quickly. Dark roasted malts with hint of chocolate. Extremely dry, bitter, rich, smoky. Highly acidic, with high carbonation such that it is obvious in the flavor. With that said, the rich flavor conceals the high alcohol content well. It’s actually a quite decent drink, but it ain’t all that.

Pours a solid black with a brown head. It has a rich aroma of dark malt, baking chocolate, alcohol, and some coffee. The flavor is rich malt and chocolate with a solid malt backbone and a long, sweet and slightly smoky finish over a heavy body. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cellar temperature and into a snifter. Biggest, most well held head I’ve yet seen on an Imperial. Inky black with a tan foam that is tight and held proud at a half inch with excellent lace. No place like home, this is heaving with homely chocolate, nutmeg, softly scorched coffee, cocoa, anise and molasses, beef jus and Vegemite™, roasted sage and bay-leaf infused chicken (yeah, that threw you!), bourbon for grandma and oaked Scotch for the rest of us. Blooming!; a complete family album, bold and strange for an IRS. Viscous, huge, morish on the palate. Wow, taken aback! BIG, just big. It is bold, luxurious in feel with little but creaminess for carbonation. Long, pasty, charred malt and heavily roasted coffee swing in the swallow with a dramatic earthiness. Supple sweet front: milky and dessert-like. Hints at vanilla, but geez it edges that aroma in taste. Alcohol is evident; warming the cockles all the way down. This is a kick in the ass, slow sippin’ ale. Loveable! (12fl.Oz, canned on the 03/10/13, Cellarbrations Carlisle)

On tap at local distributor, went for a growler and kicked the keg. At least I got one full pint free of charge. Chocolate, toffee nose. Thick and dark with a caramel colored head that stays put. Smooth, velvety and creamy mouthfeel. Tastes like bitter dark chocolate, coffee, and toffee. Long, long finish with a nice roasted dry character. Perfect balance, the hops are hidden perfectly. Excellent beer. I hope I can get a full growler next time.
