On tap at the brewpub. It’s served slightly hazy and copper-colored. Probably chill-haze, as it seems clear when I finish it. A small off-white head leaves lacings. Fruity in a quite Belgian way, with dried fruits, caramel and more hops than I normally expect from OMB. Caramel, dried fruits, some fresh ones too, a touch of anise and other spices and a fine bitterness. Is it the yeast that gives the spicy flavors? Medium body, creamy and nicely carbonated. Maybe a bit too carbonated, not sure. The finish continues what is found initially, with spices, fruits and a good bitterness. A really pleasant Christmas beer. Almost Belgian-like in a way, bitter, effervescent, slightly spiced and moreish. (081114)

2007 edition, pint on tap at the brew pub. Perfect served at ambient temperature. Partly unclear, mahogany body under a fragile, filmy off-white layer. Plain dark malty aroma. Plenty of dark malts in flavour. Moderate sweetness. The aroma is very well interwoven with the taste in this one. Moderate to full palate. Well made xmas brew (enjoyed in a friendly atmosphere on a Tuesday evening 13.11.2007)

UPDATED: NOV 8, 2006 Served ice cold; had to warm it manually. Medium offwhite head; deep, dark and faintly hazy body with carbonation. Sweetish licorice aroma with metallic, resiny hops. Taste is again resiny hops followed by roasty, burnt malts. Watery mouthfeel made chewy by the carbonation. Aftertaste is powdery, dry malts and bitterness. Acidic with notes of wild berries. This is OK, but not really a Christmas beer. Taste elements are OK, but the combination is not that great. (0.5l on tap.) (Previous rating 2006-01-11: 6/4/6/3/15. Average, creamy off-white head over hazy red translucent body. Harmonic aroma of caramel malts and floral hops with pine notes. Sweet malty flavour quickly followed by a nice, dry aftertaste that’s malty, slightly sourish, and very hoppy. Very bitter for a Christmas beer. Hoppy, dry aftertaste lingers. Quite good, and quite interesting. (On tap @ OMB.))

Well balanced. Both malty sweetness and a nice hoppy finish - pine and flowers. A nice variety of the Norwegian Christmas beer style.

(Draught at the brewpub, 5 Nov 2009) Reddish amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty nose with dark fruit, caramel and spicy hops. Malty, fruity taste with notes of dried fruit, citrus and earthy hops in a finish with a generous bitterness. The aromas are a bit closed in the nose, but come through better in the full-flavoured taste. Nice and well balanced beer.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours dark amber with a small off-white head. Dark malty aroma, toffee as well.Nice and balanced beer, not too sweet, but a good example of a Norwegian Christmas beer.

Draught at the brewpub. Served far too cold. This is a seasonal Yule/Christmas ale. Deep reddish brown colour, hazy. Pleasant malty aroma and flavour with caramel and spices. A bit too carbonated for my taste.

On tap @ the brewpub. A foggy dark red beer with a thin grey head leaving laces. Served too chilled, but a pleasant smell of toffee, berries and grassy hops appears when the beer is warming up. Taste is a nice balance of fine malt-sweetness, a good amount of bittering hops, and some inviting tones of plums and cranberries. Healthy body. Lively mouthfeel. Light bitter and light fruity-acidic finish. A well made and tasty Christmas ale.

On tap at the Oslo Mikrobryggeri. Dark brown with a red hue. Head is small. Delicious sweet chocolate and caramel aroma. Flavour is sweet with lots of chocolate and fruitiness. There is good balancing bitterness so the beer remains very refreshing. Medium body, quite fizzy.

UPDATED: MAR 1, 2012 On tap at brewery pub 09 des 2011. Amber colour with a small off white head. Fruity and hoppy aroma. A solid malt background with a fresh hoppy flavour. Very fresh and good tasting beer, but not as dark as I would have expected from a christmas brew, I could drink this the whole year around :-)
