Rich Black color. Nice earthy aroma. Rich dark ale taste, mixed in with a lot of malt. We also have a smokey peat taste like a great scotch. Only negative was it was a little watery.

Bottle. Dark brown pour with a touch of tan head. Darker malt oak and peat aromas. Woody favors with some darker malt tones.

Dark brown-black, quick dissipating tan cover. Aroma is light peat reek, caramel, bready malt, chocolate. Taste is stronger peat, some chocolate, toffee, caramel, a bit thin.

I let it warm a tiny bit before trying. Poured with an average light tan head that quickly subsided to a very thin cover, ring, and a tiny bit of lace. Color is hazy/cloudy brown amber. Aroma is malt, toffee, roast, caramel. Flavor is similar, plus has the carbonic tang, a little peat, and not much sweet also has a shade of sour that makes me think it’s turning.. Body is perhaps a bit thin and carbonation a bit forced. Finish is like flavor and of average length.

Draft. Poured dark brown color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Solid smooth malty aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy balanced bittersweet flavor with a medium smooth bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid brew.

Very dark brown with some visible sediment. Aroma has malt, some red wine, red meat and a little smoke. Flavor is sweet, lightly smoked, and a very light tart flavor. Good.

Deep brown with red hints. Smooth cocoa, mild fruit esters, and caramel malt. Taste is smooth roasted malt, mild dark fruit, caramel malts and finishes with a light, dry toastiness. Porter:Scotch 60:40 would be my description. Fairly light on the palate, but pretty good. Better than expected and wouldn’t mind trying again sometime.

Bottle courtesy of BeerFMAndy. Served in a tulip. Pours a very dark brown with some crimson highlights. Half-finger off-white head stays around for awhile before falling into a thin cap with some bubbles on top. A bit of spotty lacing. The nose carries some roasted malt and dark fruits, but also shows early signs of an infection. Slight acidic character along with some cherry. The flavor shares the same components with a slight acidity in the finish. Other than that, medium body and low carbonation with a moderate amount of sweetness. Could be a decent enough beer without the sanitation issues. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 06-05-2011

12 oz bottle. $2 single @ Ray’s, Wauwautosa. Not quite "black," but still a deep brown pour in my shaker glass, with a nice eggshell colored head. Smell shows just a little bit of peat, and a slight touch of phenol. Taste is quite a bit of all right, though. Yes,warm, slightly smoked Scotch malts without the hint of harsh black malt bitterness. Much malt forward, website lists this as 6.3% abv. No discernible hops outside of a balance to the malts. Though somewhere down there I detect a note of pineapple juice. Or is that phenol? No, don’t think so. Very nice, warm beer that could stand to be issued in bombers or barreled.
