On tap at the Great Taste of the Midwest. Just found out they will NOT be bottling this as planned. This makes me sad as it is such a great beer!

I’ve always like O’so and have been waiting for something like this. Absolutely delicious. So malty, complex, and wonderful. Can’t wait to let my other bottle age for a bit.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Brigadier (2230) - Bloomington, Indiana, USA - AUG 18, 2011
On tap at GTMW (2011)
Wow - this was a total surprise. Someone recommended that I give it a try so with low expectations I stopped by their booth. After all previous beers have been solid regional releases but nothing that made me rethink the brewery. This is that beer. Brandy, sweet chocolate, and malt linger in the air. The bitter warm aftertaste is not boozy at all. Well balanced it went down far too smoothly for what I suspect was not a low ABV stout.

On draught during pre-GTMW 2011 events at the Toronado Steakhouse in downtown, Madison, Wisconsin. Pours an opaque dark brown colored imperial stout, thick tan head that leaves behind some sticky lacing. Aroma of toasted dark malt, a hint of sweet brandy, dark chocolate, some light soy and black licorice. Taste is full bodied, lots of flavor profile from black licorice, toasted black and chocolate malt, brandy and a hint of pine tips. Finish is thick and chewy, some burnt licorice, Bakers chocolate and some mild brandy followed by a hint of menthol. Oh boy, this one could be a sleeper beer.

750mL bottle generously shared by a kind soul at the Tampa Tasting. Pours a stout brown with a tan head. Nose is roasted malts, wood, brandy, and chocolate. Flavor follows with roast, wood, brandy, and chocolate; a bit boozy at times. Medium to full in body and a solid stout overall.

Thanks to Jeff for trading this one to me. Pours black in color with a small off-white head. Nose is full of brandy and vanilla with a bit of oak. Plenty of roast, dark fruit, and cocoa as well. The flavor is quite bold. A touch of booze but an overall enjoyable brandy and vanilla component. Strong roasted malt and dark chocolate with an undertone of dark fruit. This was really quite good.

Bottle shared by b3shine. Poured dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Heavy roasted coffee, chocolate, sweet wood aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy dark sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectations where exceeded.

GTMW. Deep black with tan-brown head. Mostly roast and a touch of dark fruit in the nose. Roasted malt, mild sweetness/cream, toffee, some fruit, with a slightly acidic and roast finish. Can’t say I picked up a ton of the barrel aspects. Overall pretty nice. Could use a little more of the "smooth" factor.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 TheAlum (4289) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - JUL 8, 2012
Bottle shared at MuckFest 3 - Saturday Edition. Pours a richer blackish thicker pour, near opaque and black with some brownish edges and bottom, shows some light. A small frothy tannish head dies to a ring, laces small. Aromas are a distinct apple brandy element, gentle spirit, Brandy, cocoa, toffee, and mellow roast. Touches of vanilla, caramel, with a firm apple brandy element, apple moreso than spirit with oak, toast, a touch of smokiness as it warms a bit more. Initial is heavier end of medium bodied, a touch thinned from the barrel offering touches of woody tannins, heat, and some dryness. Touches of toast, roast, and growing warming brandy spirit. Mellow caramel, toffee, and biscuits. Gentle thickness, with oak, barrel, cocoa, gentle bit of fudge. Touch of smoky malts, roast, and dryness stick on the finish with some sticky sweet malts, darker. Pretty nice. Not hot, well integrated brandy presence.
