The second you open this bottle there is no mistaking that this is not your average IPA. Massive hop additions of the most obnoxious breeds put this taste bud burner in a league all its own. Our bet is that you will think it is Oso Freakishly good! Caution! This brew is 9% and may contain a hop cone in every bottle (2009 to present vintages) ! We want to make sure to repeat this reminder that we put a hop cone in the bottle. Always pour into a glass to release the essence from the bottle.

2010 bottle is one of my favorite beers. 2011 bottle is flat and something is really off. Drain pour on the 2nd bottle. Very disappointing as I am such a fan.

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate caramel, candied fruit, and citrus. It pours a transparent amber with a small off-white head that leaves behind to thin webbing on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with caramel and light-moderate fruitiness. The finish has moderate sweet citrus notes and light grapefruit. Its medium-full bodied with mild carbonation an slick/oily mouthfeel. Overall, I find this sitting in that grey area of "Is this an IIPA or Barley Wine?"

A hazed amber DIPA with a thin off white head, with floating hops in the bottle. In aroma, sweet musty malt with light pinhey hops, nice. In mouth, a nice smooth biscuit malt with pinhey hops, vinous notes, catnip, very nice and earthy. Bottle at Istmus Beer and Cheese Fest, Jan 21 2012.

12oz bottle from Downer Wine and Spirits, with a lone hop cone in it. Pours a clear amber color with a thin white head. Aroma is hoppy, citrus, orange. Medium on the palate with light carbonation. Flavor is sweet, a little malty, a weird tea flavor that I think is suppose to be hops, with a malt sweet finish. The hop cone is gimmicky, and the beer is pretty blah for me.

(12oz bottle, 2010 vintage thanks to bu11zeye) clear gold with a ring of fine white bubbles. Nose of honey and pineapples. Taste is dank, orange, sweet and biscuit.

On tap at the new OSo location. Hazy light orange pour with a small white head. Malty citrus hop aroma - wonderful. Smooth palate. Awesome citrus and pine hop flavor, a little sticky, with a big malt balance. Just what I want out of a DIPA. Great stuff.

This beer is really pretty decent, but still nothing much to it. I like some more complexity.

Bottle with three hop cones (Im assuming 2010) via a trade. Pours with a hazy, hazy orange body with a thick white head. Aromas are huge with tropical fruit, big c-hops, papaya, grassy, resiny, estery. Fruity, light alcohol and some caramel. Taste is a bit oxidized (showing itself most in coconut flavors), caramel, toffee, medium to low bitterness. Light floral hop flavors with light warming. To be honest this has become a very acceptable, American barley wine. Sweet, but not really a sticky, caramel, crystal sweetness. Medium to lively bubbles. Medium bodied. A bit full for an IIPA, but dry for a barley wine. Overall: tasty.

12 oz bottle from our Wisco/Minnesota trip. I think I have 4-5 12 oz bottle rates left. Pours a well hazed orange amber pour, glowing orange and a small frothy offwhite head that is more of a film, ok lacing overall and a loose hop cone inside. Hmmm. Aromas are oranges, caramel, toffee, some wet cardboard, and toast. Biscuits, florals, grass, and touches of grapefruit, sweeter gumball like essence. Initial is medium bodied, past its prime it seems. A healthy orange and toffee sweetness up front, malty biscuits, toast, bread and decent bitterness move into an ok hoppy press, green hops and grass, florals, and more resinous pine start to grow on the back of the palate, lemons. A bit underbodied, perhaps thinned, with a growing resinous and dry earth hopping on the backend, a touch of ABV mixes into the dryness. Its not bad, perhaps a touch old as some of the fruity and citrusy elements seem to have faded away but its still quite drinkable just not oozing hop vibrancy and complexity. Not bad. Finish is dry, sweet toffee, and oranges with earthy and piney hops in decent amounts, a touch of oxidation. Ok.

2010 bottle - had to buy this - there is a hop cone in the bottle; who wouldnt want to buy it because of that? - anyway, at first it was cool, but once the cone got stuck in the neck of the bottle, making the beer extremely difficult to pour, it wasnt quite as cool anymore - turbid straw color - minimal head after the trickle of a pour the blocked neck produced - earthy, piney hop aroma, with some additional grapefruit zest and underlying sweet maltiness - nice nose, really - moderate sweetness for the style - loads of earthy hop flavor - still tastes fairly fresh, despite its age - strong bitterness, but only moderate acidity - sweetness is just strong enough to temper the hops - finish eventually becomes a bit sugary, but this is mostly fairly well-executed - I probably wouldnt buy it again, but youve got to love the novelty.
