4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On draft at the brewpub, snifter glass. (I later had some bottles of this as well, which had the hop cone inside. Cool!) Strongly hoppy aroma with notes of pine, resin, fresh, herbal, leafy tones and florals, very dank overall with very light toasted malt in the background. Medium-dark copper in color with a very fine, uneven head and sparse lacing. Flavor is a veritable hop explosion, with plenty of green, leafy, piney character, some faint citrus and earthiness but really just as fresh as can be, with more than adequate bitterness and a mild malty presence, some toasted caramel and honey to be found amidst the hop onslaught. Body is full, mouthfeel is effervescent and oily, quite a heft to it. This is a substantial beer indeed. Very nice!!

12oz bottle to snifter. Label says bottle MAY contain hop cone. Mine didnít. Tastes like pine and grapefruit. Very sweet but overly bitter hop bite.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle w/ Hop Cone - Well - I thought it was a fun concept to try. Once. Some people probably find it to be a gimmick - but either way : The pour is murky golden caramel with a modest off white head into this glass. It pours on the slow side because the hop cone tries to block the pour - Perhaps this isnít a brilliant idea afterall. Retention is average, with light spotting present. For fun - I pulled the hop cone out as well and let it rest on top of this foamy sea. The nose is somewhat striking - itís oily, dank, mild tropical, with pine needle presence and light caramel. The flavor profile shares that feeling - it is somewhat striking - at least somewhat different, which I attribute to the hop cone. However ; for an IIPA - itís just lacking in some avenues. Bittering pine needle, light citrus, caramel and biscuit presence - itís dank for sure. And it does mellow here as well. Unfortunately, i find that the malt backbone is lacking, somewhat, which leads to the finish fading into some sort of obscure feeling, overall. Ah well.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Soft cloudy golden pour with 1 finer creamy firm head. Rich aroma, lots of malt sweetness and bready notes. Dextrinous. Sweet citrus and zest with some alcohol. A touch oxidized. Muddled/faded flavor with a thick bitterness and herbal hop profile. Very full body.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a cloudy copper color with a medium sized white head. Aroma is of hops. Very creamy on the palate. Taste is a malt backbone with some caramel notes and a strong hop flavor that complements the malt. Not overly bitter but definitely has a strong hop presence. A very good IPA.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
pours a hazy golden amber brown. Medium foamy white head. Great thick lacing. Aroma is very floral and slight citrus (not nearly as citrusy as many IPAs). tastes great. very hoppy, medium bitter, resiny, long but not overly bitter finish. A little bit of non-specific candy in there somewhere. Once I fished the hop cone out, I sniffed it and it smells the same, duh :-) Good beer!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Hazy amber pour with not much head. Pour was slow because the hop cone got stuck in the mouth of the bottle. Who had the job of stabbing a single hop cone into each bottle? Yikes. Nice dank nose. Vegetal, hoppy and grassy taste with a slightly astringent and bitter finish. Maybe this is good within a few days, but the hop cone in my bottle is pale and lifeless, all the green goodness drained like a hop vampire had gone to town on it.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Aroma is not of hop but of butterscotch/caramel. Hazy amber body with a thin off white head. Richly hoppy flavor with butterscotch notes. I like the creativity from the folks at Oso to put a hop cone in the bottle. Wonder why other brewers donít do this? The buttlerscotch doesnít detract from the flavor per se, and I am actually a huge fan of just about anything caramel. However, Iím not sure this was intended. It certainly isnít called out in their commerical deScription for the beer. Probably the best Oso beer Iíve had.
