Our strongest permanently available brew, Excelsior has a mellow yet full flavour that develops into a fruity dryness. A fresh, hoppy aroma with citrus, toffee and floral characteristics.

Tasted this at the Troon Beer Festival in September 2004. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear pale amber in colour with a thin white head. Distinct aroma of burnt toffee, short in the nose. Thin but creamy mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a rich fiery flavour to the biscuity base with a hint of toasted marshmallows. Slight prickle of bitter hop resins comes through in the short aftertaste. Finish is malty and robust with warming sweet notes of golden syrup and highland toffee. An excellent ESB and well recommended.

Handpulled cask at JDW Harrow. Pale gold colour. Fresh as a daisy and just as floral. Brash, spicy hops. Intensely aromatic. Lychees and grapefruit in the flavour. Lots of bite on the finish. Just superb!.

Cask in the Shepherd’s Rest, Sowerby Bridge. Pours golden with a white head. A bitter sweet beer with biscuity notes plus plenty of good citrus hop flavour. Quite decent.

On cask. Light gold, white top. Smells of bitter lemon. In the mouth there's a gin like slo-berry, lime, and bags of hoppy bitters. A bit off kilter.

Cask at Poste of Stone, Stone, Staffs. A very light ale which gives the impression it may be high on citrus content. More full bodied than that and a good quaffing light ale.

Hand pulled at The Crown, Beeston. I liked this. Strong, yup, and probably the main reason I’m now sitting on a train deciding whether to have curry, pizza or chips at the other end. Tasty hoppy citrus bitter with some ginger grassiness. I think I’m making up words here. Nice beer.
