COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular.
A light refreshing pale ale designed for the discerning session drinker. Pale Gold has a floral/spicy aroma derived from the finest American hops. A beer that drinks higher than its modest alcohol content would suggest.

Lightly hopped session beer, a little bit thin of palate but still pleasant and refreshing.

After much deliberation the Old Boys Real Ale Tour boys Bargain Bob and Johnkett rated Pale Gold their favourite session beer at their regular haunt The Travellers Inn in Hipperholme, Halifax. The bench mark for all our rating sessions.

Tasted this in the Last Post, Paisley (JDW) in October 2008. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear pale gold in colour with a thin white head. Floral hops and citric notes in the short aroma. Thin resiny mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a fruity base with grapefruit and kiwi present in there. Metallic tang to the hop resins giving a dry bitter astringent aftertaste. Finish is dry with strong pithy flavours in the tart citric flavours. A below average Golden Ale.

Cask. Pale golden colour, small white head. Aroma is fruity and floral along with some mild zesty and earthy notes. Flavour is fruity and floral with some mild nectar and also some balancing up maltyness as well. A quite pleasant and refreshing golden ale.

A very average ale. Slight grassy aroma, golden coloured, taste of citrus and on the palate there’s not a great deal. As for it feeling more than 3.8% as the description says, yes, its more like an ale just over 4%/

Cask@Spitting Feathers Brewery Tap, Chester. Clear amber looks with a thin white head. Pretty uninspiring nose with some muffled grassy hop lurking. Palate a bit thin. Citrus was about the only thing that stood out in the flavour. Hoppage not prominent enough. Dry bitter finish. Drinkable but blah.

Cask Conditioned handpump Coach & Horses Wellingborough. More copper than pale gold if you ask me with a nice whitish bubbly head and lacing. The hops are fairly grassy in the nose and lightly fruity in the mouth. Quite light all round but quaffable enough.

Draught (Euston Tap, London)
6+ nice grainy aroma, but Anna says swimming pool.
3 Gold, small head.
6+ Rich mashy and slightly wooly taste, a touch grainy. Simple mashy body, no yum factor.
3 Palate’s a little heavy with underattenuation.
12+ Not a bad beer, but not really selling itself.
