2nd December 2008. Very dark brown beer - light just passes through. Doesnít look or feel like a stout! A little dark malt but fruity and tangy rather than roasty or chocolatey! Not bad but it ainít a stout!

Bottlle, from Rhythm & Booze in Barton. Deep red brown, good lasting creamy beige head and gentle condition. Sweet toffee and roast malt in the nose with some background herbal hoppiness. Quite dry and biscuity in the mouth with hints of roast and burnt toffee but little apparent sweetness, more lingering dry burnt bitterness in the finish with some vague liquorice notes

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: DEC 24, 2008 Bottle (in NZ), pours a ruby-tinted black with a creamy beige head. Roasted malt on the nose, coffee, and a sweetness akin to some whiskeys. Overly sweet roasted malt on the palate, but becomes more dry and bitter in the swallow. Tobacco and aniseed in the finish. Re-rated - lighter this time, with more coffee flavour. Very easy to drink.

A tasty beer from Ossett. Nice caramel nose, and delicious roasty flavour without being astringent or overly bitter. One of the better stouts I’ve had and I’m not a big fan of the style. Marked down overall only for hints of petroleum (yes really) in the nose and on the palate. Otherwise, a great beer from my favourite English county!
