Bottle, cheers to Leighton for the sample. Deep brown pour with a tiny tight tan head. The aroma’s rich toffee, roasted wood and grain, some cocoa and vanilla. The taste is more of the same. Nice accents of jammy blackberry and earthy compost. More chocolate, moderate woodiness. Clean, dry finish. Light body, nimble on the palate. Good vitality. Overall, a very solid beer. Nice.

Bottle thanks to Leighton. It pours hazy brown with a small white head. The nose is earth, caramel, roasted malt, toast and sticky dark fruit. The taste is roasted malt, toast, earth, dark fruit, faint tartness, caramel, coffee and light bitterness with a dry finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and slightly sticky mouth-feel. Decent all-round.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Leighton (6956) - London, ENGLAND - MAY 16, 2013
Bottle shared at CBC Islington - London. Pours lightly hazy brown with a fine, creamy tan head. Dry cocoa in the nose, some dirt. Medium sweet flavor, some burnt toast, chalky cocoa, light alcohol, mild earthy bitterness, some dried semi-dark fruits. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Moderate sweetness to finish, mellow dry chocolate, some earth, toasted brown bread. Good stuff.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 tombyars (1204) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - APR 12, 2013
500ml bottle from Hippo Beers, Glasgow in March 2013. Pours a clear dark garnet with a creamy thick off white head. Strong malty aroma with notes of port in the long nose. Thin but creamy mouthfeel with strong carbonation. Dark malts give a rich maltloaf base with sweet black grape and dark chocolate notes. There is a herbal flavour to the hop resins but the mellow bitter aftertaste is short lived. Finish is smooth and malty with strong vinous oak cask and chicory notes. An interesting porter that keeps its strength well hidden. Well recommended.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 rjkreid (190) - SCOTLAND - MAR 1, 2013
Smooth, sweet and tasteful porter which has mild roasted coffee notes throughout coupled with a mild sweetness that doesn’t become overly cloying. Verges slightly on the bland, but manages to pull off understated quality instead.

Bottle. Black and reddish beer with a very light whispy head. The aroma is mildly roasted, and the flavour is quite vinous in nature with a subtle malty and roasted body with a gentle bitter finish. Overall a pleasant but understated porter.
