Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Absolutely gushed a clear dark brown with a bubbly white head. Really.... I lost most of this beer on my kitchen work surface! The aroma is yeast red berry fruit alcohol. The flavour is medium sweet with a yeast medicinal alcoholic bitter palate. Medium bodied with frothy carbonation. No way is this a porter and I strongly suspect it’s infected. Barely drinkable.

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. This is a dark copper coloured beer with chocolate and black cherry flavours, liquorice notes and a fruity and slight roasted finish.

Very lively fobbing brown beer with towering grey-beige head. Unusual earthy/plastic aroma that may indicate infection. Fairly liighjt bodied for its abv, toast, cocoa and astringent roast barley. Very disappointing and perhaps not as intended.

Sigmund (4817) - Tau, NORWAY - MAR 31, 2014
500 ml bottle conditioned, a gift from my beerpal Olav, thanks! ABV is 6.6%. Dark brown colour, minimal head and carbonation. Fairly nice aroma where chocolate malts dominate, also vanilla. The flavour is not too sweet, again chocolate malts dominate, discrete hops in the background. There is just enough carbonation to keep the beer from being totally lifeless, thus making it quite drinkable.

500ml bottle from Beer Hawk - Dark black in colour with very little head. Smells of roasted chocolate. Tastes of slightly sour chocolate with hints of sour cherry sweets and coffee. Good oily mouthfeel, although a little too sharp on the finish.

500ml bottle poured into a tulip glass. Violently frothy head desperate to get down my neck. Colour of mahogany. Herby hops and deep roastiness.

Bottle from Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Lovely, dark red colour. Massive beige head, down to the over the top amount of carbonation, I reckon. Too fizzy! Much glass swirling later, and it’s ready to drink. Aroma is dark fruits, bonfire toffee. Fruits well to the fore, mind you. Taste is sour dryness. Alcohol makes its presence known. Lacking finesse. But aren’t we all...

Bottle@home, pours a dark brown not quite black with a reddish tinge, with a slightly orange head. First up the negative too much carbonation for me. The positives a smooth wonderfully velvety vanilla taste with dark burnt notes at the end.

Bottle, cheers to Leighton for the sample. Deep brown pour with a tiny tight tan head. The aroma’s rich toffee, roasted wood and grain, some cocoa and vanilla. The taste is more of the same. Nice accents of jammy blackberry and earthy compost. More chocolate, moderate woodiness. Clean, dry finish. Light body, nimble on the palate. Good vitality. Overall, a very solid beer. Nice.

Scopey (5528) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 19, 2013
Bottle thanks to Leighton. It pours hazy brown with a small white head. The nose is earth, caramel, roasted malt, toast and sticky dark fruit. The taste is roasted malt, toast, earth, dark fruit, faint tartness, caramel, coffee and light bitterness with a dry finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and slightly sticky mouth-feel. Decent all-round.
