Cask at NERAX. Pours a black brown with little head. Aroma is quite roasty with some pine. Flavour is similar, with light green hop flavour and a black coffee finish. Nice and full bodied. Not too punchy a black ipa, but a nice sort of in-between bordering on stout hybrid.

At first there is a strong burnt caramel aroma with subtle hints of smoked wood and roasted malts. The beer is quite acidic and this adds to the bitterness, initially there is a sharp sweet toffee flavour with a strong background of roasted malt this develops into a rather smooth but rich roast coffee after taste which lingers on the palate. Almost completely opaque with a strong and heavy cream to grey head has some life but is quite still which intensifies the flavours without having an over powering aroma.

500 ml bottle conditioned, thanks to my beerpal Olav. Gyle: Oxy015. ABV is 5.5%. Very dark brown colour, large beige head. Roasty aroma, notes of woodwork and burnt breadcrumbs, some undefined hops. Dry and slightly acidic flavour, notes of woodwork, bitter hops, ashes and burnt breadcrumbs again. Could have been better.

Scopey (5521) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 21, 2014
Cask at Duchess of Cambridge. It pours darkest brown with a minimal beige head. The nose is roasted malt, wood, toffee, aniseed and orange zest. The taste is pretty bitter upfront, pine, resin, peppery, grapefruit, roasted malt, liquorice and toast with a bitter finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. A bit raw, but a solid cda anyhow.

Cask conditioned at Fleetwood Beer Fest ’14. Black with cream head. Darkly roasted, chocolate malts give a bitterness on the tongue initially, coffee and liquorice then a hoppy, fruity bitterness. Good stuff.

Cask @ Old Gate, Hebden Bridge. Black with an off-white creamy head. Has a tropical fruit aroma with a mix of fruits and roasted malts in it’s taste, with the latter aspect more prevalent in its aftertaste.

Cask at the Grape and Grain, Crystal Palace. Pours a very dark reddy brown with an off white head. Nice aroma with toasty malty notes sitting alongside some citrus and sweeter fruits. Medium body, medium carbonation. The fruity hops hit first with tropical fruits and some citrus which is followed by a dark bitter choc, black coffee finish. Nice balance, good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(Cask): Black in colour, off white head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, burnt notes, charcoal, slight citrus fruit. Flavour is initially chocolate, roasted malt and coffee but then an explosion of bitter, citrus hops hits you with notes of grapefruit and lemon zest. Burnt, chocolate and charcoal finish. So drinkable.
