Bottle from Beers of Europe. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is yeast, grassy citrus hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a roasty, liqourice, big hop bitter palate and lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

500ml bottle. Dark brown, with a fine toffee-coloured head. Sharp aroma, creamy with a something akin to Biro ink. Dry flavour, heavy coffee and cream. Dry aftertaste. Very much like a stout, as opposed to a black IPA.

Aroma is quite prominent in green, resinous hop. Fairly hoppy flavour with a decent roasted malt bitterness.

Cask at The Roebuck, Leek (Titanic) A deep brown colour with a medium beige head. Aroma of grapefruit, slight resin, subtle lemon, roasted malts, chocolate, a little coffee and some earthiness. Taste of roasted malts, chocolate, a little coffee, some resin, slight grapefruit, subtle earthiness and herbal hops. Medium bodied and soft carbonation. A dry, roasted, chocolate bitterness with a subtle resinous aftertaste. A really nice dark beer, more stout than black IPA but the subtle hoppiness is enough.

BOTTLE 50 CL. Opaque black, beige head with good lacing. Nice aroma: hoppy - mint and lemon rind, malt sweetness that blends nicely with the hops and just a hint of roast. The taste is balanced between hops, light malts and chocolaty roast, fresh hoppy bitter finish. Easy drinking, though the body is lacking at times. Still, a very good beer.

Dark like a stout with foamy thin head. Smokey, metallic nose with rich fruity notes. Clean, balanced taste with smoke, burnt caramel, coffee, blueberry, strawberry. Burnt bitter toast in a long gentle finish. Smooth, oily palate. Accomplished brew.

50cl bottle from Marks & Spencer, Camberley. A glossy pitch coloured pour with a loose tan head; creamy chocolate aroma; sharply bitter taste with a dry lactic body; leading to cofee grounds and burnt sugar and a long dry coffee finish. A pleasant drink, but to me this more a "stout with attitude" than a Black IPA,
