Cask conditioned handpump Wenlock Arms London 16/05/12. A near black beer with a ruby hue and an off-white head. Great grapefruity hops in the nose which carry through to the mouth where they are joined by roasty malts. A very tasty beer with great depth of flavour and bitterness. Unlike a lot of BIPAs, the taste exceeds the aroma.

Cask @ Drygate brewery pours a dark brown with a thin white head aroma is mild malt with a bit of coffee taste is dryish with a bit of malt and a dryish finish very average to poor beer personally I dont,t think black IPA,S WORK and this is the poorest one iv’e tasted

Bottle oxy019, best before 2015-05-05. Pours dark brown with a medium sized good lacing creamy tan head. Wood, cocoa, citrus, minerals, earthy, some very light burnt/charcoal notes. I wonder if there’s some brett in here or if the light barnyard/leather is just in my head. Either way it works pretty well. Medium body, soft texture and carbonation, some initial sweetness that is quickly washed away by a pleasant level of bitterness. Has some light acidity as well. Long dry finish with both malt and hops. Pretty interesting and also pleasant. Big bodied for the abv.

Gravity at Parkstone beer festival; black, burnt edges; thin burnt head; ashy, smoked, roast malt; piny hoppiness; thick and chewy; quite bitter; hard going, took me ages to drink, but well worth the effort!

500ml bottle from Valhalla’s Goat. Almost black, massive beige head. Spicy treacle malt aroma. Tarry chocolate malt flavour. Bitter aftertaste. Complex one this. Somewhere between a porter & Black IPA.

Bottle. Pours black with a small, bubbly light beige head, medium retention with spare lacing. Aroma is roast and dark chocolate malt, dates and prunes, earthy and herbal hops. Flavor is bitter dark malt, moderate hops and bitterness, dark fruits and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Cask @ Ludlow Spring Festival May 14. Decent black IPA with bitter resin and subtle roasted elements. A nice end to a good little beer festival.

Creedence (282) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 29, 2014
Cask at NERAX. Pours a black brown with little head. Aroma is quite roasty with some pine. Flavour is similar, with light green hop flavour and a black coffee finish. Nice and full bodied. Not too punchy a black ipa, but a nice sort of in-between bordering on stout hybrid.

At first there is a strong burnt caramel aroma with subtle hints of smoked wood and roasted malts. The beer is quite acidic and this adds to the bitterness, initially there is a sharp sweet toffee flavour with a strong background of roasted malt this develops into a rather smooth but rich roast coffee after taste which lingers on the palate. Almost completely opaque with a strong and heavy cream to grey head has some life but is quite still which intensifies the flavours without having an over powering aroma.

Sigmund (5345) - Tau, NORWAY - MAR 16, 2014
500 ml bottle conditioned, thanks to my beerpal Olav. Gyle: Oxy015. ABV is 5.5%. Very dark brown colour, large beige head. Roasty aroma, notes of woodwork and burnt breadcrumbs, some undefined hops. Dry and slightly acidic flavour, notes of woodwork, bitter hops, ashes and burnt breadcrumbs again. Could have been better.
