3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask at NERAX. Pours a black brown with little head. Aroma is quite roasty with some pine. Flavour is similar, with light green hop flavour and a black coffee finish. Nice and full bodied. Not too punchy a black ipa, but a nice sort of in-between bordering on stout hybrid.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark like a stout with foamy thin head. Smokey, metallic nose with rich fruity notes. Clean, balanced taste with smoke, burnt caramel, coffee, blueberry, strawberry. Burnt bitter toast in a long gentle finish. Smooth, oily palate. Accomplished brew.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
50cl bottle from Marks & Spencer, Camberley. A glossy pitch coloured pour with a loose tan head; creamy chocolate aroma; sharply bitter taste with a dry lactic body; leading to cofee grounds and burnt sugar and a long dry coffee finish. A pleasant drink, but to me this more a "stout with attitude" than a Black IPA,

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Black beer with a strongish light brown coloured head. The aroma is roasted with a touch of yeastiness, and the flavour is quite bitter with heaps of bitterness, some coffee, and yeastiness. Overall a nice beer.

Nose is fruity light roasty, flavor is dark chocolate, toffee, coffee, dried fruits. Light sweet, medium to heavy bitter. Finish is long lasting heavy dark chocolate bitter, later mostly hoppy. Full body, thin texture, average carbonation. Excellent easy dessert beer, simple but very tasty.

Bottle from Saucy Pears.
Appearance - opaque with a lovely lacy fawn head.
Nose - chocolate and marmalade.
Taste - hard yellow cheese, then chocolate, then quite bitter orange and dark malt.
Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish.
Overall - it did the black bit, but it didnít quite do the IPA bit for me.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Creamy light chocolate aroma with roasty notes. Black with a nice cappucino head. Mouthfeel is silky, thick and soft with a creaminess and the flavour is milk chocolate, roast chocolate, subtle hints of freshly ground coffee and very light hoppy notes introducing a peppery spice flavour. Really, really good. The only criticism I have is that there is the slightest metallicity to the aroma and flavour, reminiscent of some what I call; íSupermarket beersí. I donít think that these are bottle conditioned, which would be better and would probably allow the flavours to shine to the maximum extent. Here they seem ever so slightly sedated by something.
