Internationally recognised beer writer Melissa Cole visited us last month to brew an exciting new speciality beer with Matthew Otley. The beer a 4.6% abv golden speciality ale was officially launched on Friday 11th June at the GWBCF in Cardiff International Arena. Melissa named the beer at the unveiling as Thai Bo, a respectful nod to its influences that inspired it.
Infused with Lemongrass, lime leaf and galangal it has been described as having the aromas of a Thai green curry in a glass. The flavours make this an ideal summer beer as the clean refreshing flavours cut right through to quench your thirst and tickle your palette, it has been a big hit also with female drinkers as they describe it as being a beer that they like to drink. We think this beer will be making a return soon as a new monthly seasonal, but if you fancy giving it a try, hurry, we have a limited amount of casks available from this single brew, so call us to secure one of the most striking beers to come out of our brewery this year.

Hand pulled at the Wellington, Birmingham. Cloudy wheat beer appearance, with nice pale froth. Smooth and chalky in the mouth with an interesting array of flavours: lemongrass, some coconut, herbs. Really unusual, but it works for me. Really good.

Clear medium yellow colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, pale malt, spicy, thai spices. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and light light acidic with a long to average duration, mint, thai spices, soapy, earthy. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20110616]

Cask air pressure at Euston Tap. Paleish gold with lasting thin white head. Yes it has a herbacious note to it. Lime and coriander to the fore. Quite spicy but likeable too. Its good. Spicy herby and unusual. Spicy finish

Cask at the newly opened Craft beer co in London. Hazy yellow straw appearence. Interesting aroma slightly citrus earthy. The flavour is adjunct forward with the lime leaves for me being the stand out flavour. I did not pick out the lemongrass. The hop character of this reminded me of the sorachi ace single hop beer ive had, although Iím not sure which hops they used. This beer was very refreshing and sessionable.

On tap at Southampton Arms. Strong lemongrass flavour, pleasant blond beer base. But it is more flavour/perfume than beer.

Cask@GWBCF2011. Yellowish golden colour, mediumsized whitte head. Aroma is citrus fruits, mild spices as well as some resiny notes. Flavour is fruity, caramelly, mildly herbal as well as some slight earthy notes.

A Mes rate. Cask at the Southampton.
Hazy yellow with a faint greenish tinge. Pleasant dusty hop snout with a good dose of lemon. What makes the aroma enjoyable is sadly the same thing that makes the flavour not so great. Lots of lemon and coconut, some spice and a little flat otherwise. Good bitterness in the finish but itís not really enough to save it. Interesting and it certainly gets plus points for doing something different but itís just not my thing.

Cask conditioned at Minehead Beer Fest í10. Clouded orange gold with no head. It took a long time for this to come on, so it may be that Iím not tasting it at itís best. I have to say, it was a bit weird though, the spicing seemed at odds with the malty, fruity make up of the beer. Iíd like to try it in better nick, but at present this is how I saw it.
