Cask, gravity dispense at the Cornish Arms tent at Glastonbury 2015. As ’Holts Bitter’ 3.6%. Also sold as ’Solstice bitter’ in previous years. Dark orange with a scummy head. Aroma is light, sweet, honey-ish. Body is medium, smooth, low carbonation. Taste is twiggy, toffee, flowery hop, soft bitterness. Drinkable, decent enough.

On draft at the Tennants Arms in the Yorkshire Dales. Copper coloured, with a non-descript aroma. Very dry. Fair but lacking flair.

Typical English bitter - woody brown, medium / light body, little aroma, earthy hops, slight bitterness.

Tried at the Tudor house, Twekesbury. Pale Amber colour almost no head. Aroma is dull, and has a touch of malt. The taste mildly sweet. OK bitter but it won’t set the world alight.

Bottled. A clear amber / light copper colour. A moderate off-white head and noticeable carbonation. Good malty aromas with fresh but more subtle hops. A sweetish malt start, balanced well by a dry hoppy finish (with a characteristic English hop flavour.) Noticeable acidity and prickle from the carbonation throughout. A pretty good traditional session bitter.

Amber pour with a medium head. Light aroma, light bitter hops taste. Decent beer, drinkable

Cask at the Hand and Flower in Ham. Decent balance of malt and grassy hops, low carbonation, slightly thin palate. The embodiment of a pleasantly drinkable but unexciting English bitter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Golden brown, thin white bubbly head; fizzy, vaguely beer flavoured water; possibly not in the best condition at the Ashburton Arms, West Charleton, Devon.
