COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Alpine Black IPA made its debut at the Vermont Brewers Festival in Burlington, Vermont in July. It was intended to be a one-off pilot batch and quickly evolved into an instant favorite. To appease demand we have decided to release it as our new Otter Creek Winter Seasonal. Those who attended the VBF were lucky to get a sneak tasting of this incredible brew. Since then it has been the buzz around town.

Description: “Dark in color and character, this unfiltered Black IPA exudes caramel and roasted notes while highlighting a bold hop bitterness and citrus aroma. Apollo, centennial, and citra hops intermingle with the deep complexities provided by copious amounts of caramel malts and de-husked roasted barley.”

This is a very unique beer style (at least for me) It is rather light in mouthfeel with a slightly toasty flavour not found in most IPAs, but more in Porters. But the hops, they shine!

Bottle. Poured clear black color with an average frothy light brown head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted malt and hop aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate to heavy toasted bitter flavor with a moderate to heavy bitter finish of medium duration. Very good brew that I would recommend to a freind.

12oz bottle. Small creamy beige head atop brown-black body. Aroma is medium sweet, roast, some grapefruit, caramel, light bittersweet chocolate. Taste is medium sweet, roast, some grapefruit/pine, caramel, milk/bittersweet chocolate. Light-medium body, fairly drinkable.

Tap at BBD 2010. Pours a hazed yet very dark brown near black some spotty hop particle floaties and a massive off beige head- lasting and great head. Aroma is pine dank hops, lots of big grapefruit citrus and tangerine zest over a nutty roasty slightly chocolaty backbone. Flavor is light roast, dark chocolate, nuts, earth leather then citrusy hops, some pine, orange, big citra and centennial hop character. Smooth finish. Nice!

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle marked 337111710. The pour is a dark mahogany brown with hues of ruby and a half-inch, foamy beige head. The aroma has a wonderful pine sap hoppiness going on. The mouthfeel is medium to heavy with a light chewiness. The taste is beautifully bitter with a great hop ending. A very nice brew.

Tasted on 12/26/10 from a 12oz bottle sent to me as an extra in a trade, there is a long lot number that I can’t make any sense of. Pours (believe it or not) black with an average tan head that leaves a fairly thick blanket of lace. The nose is fresh pine and sticky resin hops, grapefruit, coffee, roasted malt, and a good hint of sweet molasses/burnt brown sugar. The flavor starts off with the molasses and burnt brown sugar, moving to the darkly roasted coffee flavor, and then the bitterness takes over with pine resin and grapefruit hops. The body is medium with very lively carbonation and a long roasted coffee and grapefruit finish.

FROTHINGSLOSH (4918) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 22, 2010
Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a huge foamy brown head that lingered forever and produced great lacing. The aroma was strong grapefruit, pine and floral hops though was a touch harsh. The flavor was piney and grapefruity with a strong floral middle and was almost gritty with hops. There was alight nutty malt base but this beer was mostly hop forward. The finish was long, dryish and full of floral and piney hops. Moderately full bodied. Nice.

Powder_Beer (11) - Durango, Colorado, USA - DEC 22, 2010
Malty aroma with a great black color. However the taste is dry, despite the full finish. High amounts of yeast along with cocoa and coffee. The head is medium sized and cafe colored. The coffee taste comes through rather strong in the aftertaste. Overall the taste is malty with the mouthfeel being thin despite the deep color. Appearance of this beer is great, but the taste isn’t what I was looking for.

Citrus aroma with hints of malt. Dark brown color with a small white head. Moderate bitterness throughout.
