Draft at Commercial Taphouse. Otter Creek is one of those brewers whose standard line up I donít care for, but every now and then they do a special release that really is quite nice. This is one of those times. Poured a black, brown at edges, slight white head. Aroma is a pleasant mix of roasted malt, slight caramel, and then citrus accented hops, good balance. This was a fairly light to medium bodied beer, the roast notes intermingling perfectly with grapefruit, apricot, and pine accented hops. Really nice.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Mahars. Pours black with no head. Aroma is stinging hops. Flavor is like a homemade beer, oxygenated hops with bit of a stale aftertaste. Not terrible but not great.

12oz Bottle, purchased at Wakefield Liquors - Wakefield, RI. Sinamar/carafa nose, with bunch-pine hops nose. Yawn, this still is getting worn out. Thereís no variation on it. German roast malt with C-hops at a just under IPA gravity. Plus, itís another one of those beers where you can hide lack of finesse. This one is too sweet and there isnít enough roast nor hops to make up for it. Fine with food, trendy, and somehow already like a vajazzle, uninteresting for most of us that donít read People magazine.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
State Line Liquors tasting. Pours a dark almost jet black with a nice thick and creamy dark brown head that turns into lots of nice light lacing. There are light aromas of citrus hops in the nose along with some hints of roasted malts. Has a medium amount of bitterness in the taste, which has flavors of caramel, citrus and roasted malts along with some hints of pepper. Medium bodied and relatively smooth and creamy.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap @ Doubletree Bradley Airport: Dark brown with a frothy tan head. Warm toasty aroma of grass and hops. Strong hop backbone in the flavors with just a bit of something off, kind of metallic tasting. The finish is thin which seemed unusual for an IPA, but overall this brewski is a solid IPA.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours black/dark brown with an off-white, almost tan, frothy head. Persistently sticky lace.
Aroma is sweet, fruity hops. Tropical fruit and floral aroma. Mango, pineapple, and citrus. Little pine in the background but dominated by a tropical scent.
Very hoppy. Taste is less juicy and more bitter than the aroma indicated. Still, quite sweet. Tropical flavors persist, but citrus is most dominant. Sweet malt flavors (subtle molasses) back up the hop. Syrupy and sticky texture and the carbonation is a little sharp.

This is quickly becoming my favorite style and this beer is a good representation of quality. Nice smooth mouthfeel and palate with a kick of hops that s not overwhelming. Great.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
Strong aroma of pine. Cola brown, thin tan head. Dark roasted malt and pine. Fizzy with a charred oak finish. Nicely rustic and woody. The hop varieties used go very well with the roasted malts. Great camping beer!

12 ounce bottle from Downtown Wine & Gourmet, Harrisonburg, VA, opened 1/10/11. Pours a dark brown color with a medium light brown creamy head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, nutty notes and earthy bitter hops. The taste is citrus hops, caramel, lightly roasted malts. Medium bodied. Pretty good.
