COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Alpine Black IPA made its debut at the Vermont Brewers Festival in Burlington, Vermont in July. It was intended to be a one-off pilot batch and quickly evolved into an instant favorite. To appease demand we have decided to release it as our new Otter Creek Winter Seasonal. Those who attended the VBF were lucky to get a sneak tasting of this incredible brew. Since then it has been the buzz around town.

Description: “Dark in color and character, this unfiltered Black IPA exudes caramel and roasted notes while highlighting a bold hop bitterness and citrus aroma. Apollo, centennial, and citra hops intermingle with the deep complexities provided by copious amounts of caramel malts and de-husked roasted barley.”

Bottle into a nonic pint. Pours nice deep brown, thick, persistent cream head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, a bit of grass. Taste is very smooth, chocolate milk, grass, slight bitterness. Real smooth, very easy drinking.

UPDATED: SEP 13, 2013 Pours dark black with aromas of citrus and malt. Taste of malt hops coffee and cola. Light mouth feel with good carbonation. Not a fan of the black ipas

There is a strong citrus aroma. There is also aromas of roasted malts and coffee. It is nearly completely dark in color with a medium brown, medium bodied head. There is definite a roasted malt flavor with a strong citrus aftertaste that is pleasant to the palate.

Bottle. A good black IPA, but missing something to bring the tastes together. I get all the taste separately, and to much carbonation, to watery to my taste. I did not love it, but it is drinkable.

Black, nearly opaque appearance with just a little red around the edges. Dense, tan head. Heavy roasted malt flavor with coffee, caramel and a little burnt toast. Very bitter. Fairly light-bodied. Sticky mouthfeel. Not a session beer. Much better than I expected.

Pours black with little head and almost no lacing. If you old it to light you can see just how unfiltered this beer really is! Smells of coffee and malt. Tastes spectacular, very conplex, the malted barley, the coffee notes are at the top but below that are all types of flavors you can staste. Worth drinking...regularly.

Oil black pour. Hold a light to it, the unfiltered side comes through. Aroma of coffee and malted barley. Taste the hops, well balanced. Very good brew!!

Amazing complex taste. Lack of hops aroma bitterness and oils for an IPA. But still amazingly balanced.

UPDATED: OCT 2, 2013 Draft at Khyber Pass. Very cloudy dark pour. Lasting foamy tan head. Thicker mouthfeel than expected. Chocolate ash. Very nice but missing the bluntness of the original round of Black IPAs. Still good stuff.

Bottle-purchased at Total Wine in Springfield, VA July 2013 consumed August 2013. Pours almost pitch black with a small fizzy lite kacki head with sparse lacing. Flavors are roasty, lite dark chocolate, lite woody hops, but not very punchy or flavorful. some lite toasted notes in there as well. somewhat wet dark burnt malt long into the finish. Body is thin and slightly over carbonated. Im not that impressed. flimsy finish of husky dark malt and lite piney hops with some big black pattent malt profile.
