COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Alpine Black IPA made its debut at the Vermont Brewers Festival in Burlington, Vermont in July. It was intended to be a one-off pilot batch and quickly evolved into an instant favorite. To appease demand we have decided to release it as our new Otter Creek Winter Seasonal. Those who attended the VBF were lucky to get a sneak tasting of this incredible brew. Since then it has been the buzz around town. Beer Stats: Style: Black IPA ALC/VOL: 6.0% IBU: 60 Malts: 2-Row, Caramel 60L, Carafa III Hops: Apollo, Centennial, Citra Description: “Dark in color and character, this unfiltered Black IPA exudes caramel and roasted notes while highlighting a bold hop bitterness and citrus aroma. Apollo, centennial, and citra hops intermingle with the deep complexities provided by copious amounts of caramel malts and de-husked roasted barley.”

Bottle, and draft. Black pour with some light tan head. Light roasted notes accompany a grassy and pine like hop flavor. Nice dark ipa, not so thick that you would think its a hopped up stout.

12 oz bottle. Pours brown with a thick, creamy, long lasting head and much lacing. Aroma is of citrusy hops with some hints of milk chocolate. Medium, tangy body. Citrus fruit and peppery hops dominate the palate with chocolate, roasted malt and hints of vanilla and cocoa provide some balance. Not a bad brew at all.

Bottle in Ptown. Aroma of toast, citrus, and pine. Super smooth and creamy palate. Flavors of vanilla, coffee, wood, citrusy hops. Has that minty, medicinal Guinness quality. Gently hopped, feels more like a porter or dry stout than a BIPA.

Great aroma of hops and dark roasted malts. Tastes pretty close to how it smells with a nice finish. Overall a pretty good Black IPA

Deep black pour. Nose is quite piny and hoppy. Fresh nose of cocoa over a rich hoppy backnote. The palate is nicely dry with very little roasty bitterness. Fresh and piny. Really this is quite a lovely surprise. Lean bodied, fresh and hoppy. A little bit of herbal hoppiness on the finish.

June 2, 2011; 12 oz. bottle, part of Otter Creek sampler 12-pack. The black pour is rather novel (in my experience) for an IPA, and gets an extra tick as a result. Big piney/floral aroma; very impressive. A bit sticky -- while the balance is pretty good, the malt falls away relatively quickly, and the hops carry the day. This Vermont IPA reminds me of some similar stuff being brewed up in Portland, ME.

Bottle. Poured a pitch black color with a off-white head. Aroma was sweet malts, fruity hops. Woah, this one was a solid Black IPA/IBA. Crisp citrus, grapefruits, pine hops, sweet malt balance. I’ll be looking for this one again.
