4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. bottle.
Wow, one of the very best Black IPAs out there.
12oz. Bottle: Aroma of hops, pine, citrus, evergreen, slight dark malt, and fresh hops. Poured very dark brown in color with a small, creamy, dense, tan head that lasted throughout. Hazy. Sparkling. Excellent lacing. Flavor is slightly sweet and medium bitter. Tastes of dark malt, pine, hops, slight citrus, and slight roasting. Medium body. . Average to slightly lively carbonation. Roasted dark malt, hops, pine finish is slightly sweet and medium bitter. I could see where this might be called "Award winning" is some contest, somewhere.
One of my "Notable Beers of 2012".

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Poured into a pint glass. Keep in mind that I openly hate the style.
4.25 A: Black color. Two fingers of frothy tan head. Retention is good and lots of lacing is left.
3.25 S: This isnít as hoppy as most of its brethren. Itís still hoppy, but it doesnít have the major clash between citrus and roast that most have. Hops give a combination of floral, herbal, and citrus. Light coffee roastiness from the base. Not too exciting, but not offensive either.
3.0 T: The taste is pretty much like the nose. Citrus, herbal, and floral hops clash with coffee and roastiness of the base. Like others of the style, the flavors donít work together. However, in this neither side of the flavors is overly powerful, so itís at least a little less at odds. In any case, itís still kind of boring.
3.5 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Reasonably creamy. Good enough here.
3.0 D: I guess I was wrong about the black IPA thing just being a fad. It pains me to see "now year round!" on this label, but thatís okay, Iíll just pass over it year round at the beer store.

4.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured from a 12 oz bottle dark dark brown/black with nice thick tan head which slowly dissipates. This ipa has a great body and mouthfeel. No coffee or chocolate, it is pure ipa with a great body. My new favorite winter ipa. Taste piney but also sweetish Granny Smith like hop flavor. Some orange as well. Well done

Black pour with small tan head. Aroma of citrus, malt, and some alcohol. Initial sweet and malty flavor yields to a hoppy, yet smooth and clean finish. Pleasant aftertaste of roast.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
From 12oz bottle, variety pack, in 12oz tulip glass
Aroma: Flora and Citrus hops, caramel malts
Appearance: Black, tan head
Taste: Heavy bitter, light sweet, sweet up front and bitter in back, roasted malts, not really coffee-like but just roasted
Palate: Medium to full body, slick texture, average carbonation, bitter finish
Overall: Nice body and nice bitterness. Roasted notes comes out after initial taste, more on the finish than taste. Very smooth. Nice hops and malty/roastiness. Great example of the style.

4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Black IPAís rock! Itís the best of both worlds Ė roasted flavors & hops. Delightfully bitter hops up front, backed with bitter roasted malt. Smooth, rich, tons of flavor all around, and even manageable alcohol to boot. A pert near perfect beer.
