Commercial Description:
We’re rolling out a new Imperial series with the first beer scheduled to release January ’09. These larger-than-life beers will be sold in 22 oz bottles and on draft. Brewed with more malts and more hops, these beers are big, bold, flavorful, and high-octane. The first in the series is a Russian Imperial Stout. The style was first brewed in England for the Russian Czar and it is the king of stouts. Plenty of big malt flavors- chocolate and roasted- and high alcohol with lower carbonation and mild hops. We brewed this beer with double the malts and four times the hops of regular stouts! Otter Creek Russian Imperial Stout clocks in around 10% ABV- a beer to be savored responsibly. True to style, this beer will last for years so you may want to stock up on a few bottles for your cellar while it’s available.

I’m a little more impressed with this than most of my brethren. Pours a beautiful inky black with a nice brown head. Aroma is coffee and chocolate with some sweet malt and molasses. Flavor is coffee and chocolate with a hint of sweetness and a nice bitter finish. Very good.

Serving: 22 oz. bottle. Appearance: Pitch black for all intents and purposes. It has a dense, dark tan head with good staying power. Aroma: Big roasty nose with lots of soy, a little rubbing alcohol, some charcoal, and dark stone fruit. Flavor: Slightly tart coffee notes with heavy flint and carbon notes. Creamy and roasty, but very raw. Palate: Medium carbonation that seems to go on forever with a rich mouthfeel and a long, burnt finish. Overall: Very in your face but raw and lacking sophistication. The nose is pretty lackluster. I think someone left this one in the oven too long.

Bomber. Pours inky black with a very nice dark tan head. Lacing is pretty solid. The aroma is a little lactic, but very roasty and hoppy. I think I’m going to like this. The mouthfeel is lighter than the aroma and appearance let on, but it’s certainly not a wimpy brew on the palate. Flavors of espresso, pine, earth, sour berries, and black chocolate are here. The hefty and aggressive flavor profile is a little weird with this kind of density, but it’s still good.

Pours opaque black with a nice brown head that collapses too quickly. Aroma is boldly of coffee, slight chocolate underneath. Not complex, but ample aroma. Flavor has a lot of smoke/tar/leather, resinous and coats the mouth. The coffee dominates again, the chocolate doesn’t come back. Bitter finish lingers. Oily mouthfeel, carbonation dies out quickly in this one. Overall, very good plus.

Bottle shared by Mike. Pours watery dark brown with a bit of brown head. Aroma of watery cocoa. Tastes like a decent roasty mocha. Sort of thin.

Bottle from both cletus and vtafro, thanks! Pours a deep brown with a nice big tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, dark chocolate, dark fruit, molasses, and some coffee. Flavor is much the same. On the bitter side, very nice beer. A lot going on at times, but I like it. Booze is well hidden. Very smooth. Would drink again!

Bottle from 46er3498. Thanks! Lots of dark malts. Charred and roasted malts, light dark fruit. A hint of coffee, and some booze. Pours black with a brown head that settles into nothing. Pitch black and obviously viscous. Flavor is rather one dimensional. Coffee, roast, and burnt notes. Ever so subtle sweet dark malt, but its overshadowed by all the dry coffee notes. Very soft small bubbled carbonation. Full creamy body Some alcohol in the finish.
