3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22oz.bottle: Strong roasty aroma, deep mahogany color, brown head. This beer was a suprisingly nice departure for OC. The flavor was nicely balance, roasty and bold. Alcohol was a little strong, but that’s the style. I put a case away for later.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from a bottle. Pours pitch black with a thin tan head of foam. Roasted malt, dark fruit, dark chocolate, and a hint of coffee aroma. Syrupy, clingy, with a slightly oily texture. Nice strong lasting flavors. Not harsh or bitter. Very smooth finish. Hides the alcohol well. Solid.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, pours out black with a thin tan head. Aroma is of roast, chocolate, some light sweetness, some earth. Taste is solid, complex roast, chocolate, caramel, silky smooth body, some light burnt earth, mild coffee notes and a touch of syrup and some bitterness on the finish. Really solid, like what Otter Creek is doing lately.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a black from a bottle. Not much aroma, just a general roastiness. Flavor is a nice coffee truffle, rich, more bitter than sweet. Good beer.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a thin wisp of tan foamy head. Gentle thin lacing slides into the beer.
The smell had a nice sweet to roasty blend of coffee, cocoa and a light amount of vanilla. Light bitter coffee grounds slide in underneath.
The taste was mainly sweet with a nice roasty to sweet blend of the coffee to cocoa once again. A light dry sweet to roasty coffee aftertaste leads into the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sipping quality about it. Carbonation seemed good as an RIS, as there’s enough dry and bitter roastiness on my tongue.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good RIS that I would have again.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from Brewfest. Black with tan ring and lace. Bottle was filled within millimeters of the top--probably good for aging. Chcocolate coffee boozy woody hop aroma. Roasted coffee dark chocolate sweetness with nicely subdued fruit and roasted woody bitterness that cuts the sweetness beautifully. Full body and low carb with just enough to bite. I’ve been a little burnt on impies (and sours) but this is really great. The sweetness is kept in check perfectly for my tastebuds, and the bitterness and complexity are very enticing. Excellent.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured into a snifter.
3.0 A: Black color. One finger of frothy medium brown head. Retention is below average and not really any lacing is left.
4.0 S: Bright, potent aroma on this. Tons of molasses and layers of caramel. Chocolate, moderate roastiness, and black cherry fruits. Almost like a gingerbread like doughy/biscuitiness. Very nice.
4.0 T: About the same as the nose. Molasses, caramel, moderate roast, biscuit, chocolate, moderate, yet supple, roastiness.
3.75 M: Heavier medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Pleasantly creamy and smooth.
4.0 D: Well rounded, very tasty brew. Can’t complain.
