| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 5, 2010 Sample at the "From Russia With Suds" tasting on 01/02/10: The beer pours sludge black with a medium tan head that diminishes steadily. Patches of lacing on the glass. Roasty aroma of coffee and malt. Rich, smooth body with flavors of burnt malt, toast, coffee and dark chocolate. Some boozy elements as well. The finish is more burnt malt with dark fruit and malt left over. Enjoyable all around, and competitively priced. Braudog (3789), Dayton, Ohio, USA

I could mistakenly throw this out with the old engine from my 1998 Toyota -- thick and oily with a solid light brown head. The aroma is thick and creamy. This stout drinks quite easily for such a high gravity pour, full of sweet, dark fruit and beguiling bitter chocolate. Excellent. (#3788, 1/3/2010) ksurkin (420), Norfolk, Virginia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 2, 2010 22oz bomber, batch #2411, from once upon a vine south. pours a beautiful, viscous black with a thick, creamy dark tan head and lovely lacing. aroma is excellent with big roasted malts and dark chocolate with big notes of prune, fig, and ash with hints of burnt coffee grounds and soy. flavor is outstanding as well with massive roasted malts sweetened by chocolate and molasses backed by bitter coffee, smoke, and earthy hops with hints of vanilla and whiskey on the finish. palate is full-bodied, viscous and creamy on the tongue with mild carbonation and a long, roasted, bittersweet finish. overall, an unexpectedly delicious brew. jb (1063), Rochester, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 1, 2010 Beautiful, jet black, tan head, thick on the pour. Nose is cherry cola, dark chocolate, a little alcohol, some roastiness. Body feels a bit light for the style at 1st, but better as it warms and as you savor it. Chocolaty, hoppy, a bit dry for the style in the palate, also some oranges or something of that note I can’t identify on taste. This is very good, not great. zdk (325), New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 1, 2010 My last beer of 2009. Pours black. Aroma of chocolate and molasses. Roasty malts, brown sugar and molasses. Strong hops, but not overpoweringly bitter. Finishes with some alcohol. Creamy, smooth mouthfell. This is very well balanced for a strong RIS (which I feel tend to overdue the bitter) aracauna (2427), Georgia, USA
