COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our 12th "stop" on the World Tour: "Sphinx" is an Egyptian-inspired multigrain ale brewed with Vermont honey and chamomile. The Ancient Egyptians were the first to brew beer, and they also were the first to grow many of the grains we use today. We brewed this golden ale with spelt, millet, rye, oats, barley, and wheat; for a well-deserved tribute to the ancient inventors of beer.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 1pint 6oz bottle into an Otter Creek glass. That came as part of a three pack gift set. The bottle itself has no freshness date or abv% on the label but it has a nice description of the beer. Appearance: Its body has a deep golden honey colored body with good clarity and some visible carbonation. The head starts off tall from the pour but falls down to a light cap off of white creamy foam. A quick swirl rejuvenates the head and keeps that nice foam cap on top till the last sip. Lacing is slick and quickly slides down the sides of the glass. Smell: The aroma has a full inviting nose with loads of sweet grains and honey mixing it up with herbal/floral notes. Taste/Palate: It has a very sweet overall character that reminds me of a multi grain cereal like Kashi. There is a solid base with multiple grain notes and loads of honey and herbal/floral notes as well as chamomile and hops. It finishes like herbal chamomile tea with honey. It has a smooth creamy texture with soft carbonation and a medium body. Notes: Overall I thought this was a very interesting and enjoyable beer.

Pours copper and hazy with a white head. Smells of honey, spicy, earthy, tea, caramel, some sweetness I can’t quite place. Taste is multi-layered with lots of spicy elements and a nice mellow hint of chamomile on the finish. One of the best World Tour releases to date from this brewer.

Slightly hazy pale golden beer. White head. The aroma is really interesting. Strong sweet cookie-dough nose with a lot of vanilla and soft biscuity malts. It smells a bit like Southern Tier’s Pumpking, but without all of the spiciness that defines that beer. A sweet sort of caramelly pie crust sweetness that I think works really well. Softly sweet with a kiss of gingery spice. It’s sort of granola-esque. It’s surprisingly tasty.

Pours a light amber with some lace. Smells of malt, some zest, chamomile. Flavor is chamomile tea and biscuits. Honey used well and is not overpowering. All the grains give a good body to this brew. Very pleased.

A great offering from VT. The pour is a muted clear brown with some light head. The smell is strong of the many grains and the sweetness of the honey that gives an outmeal cookie like expereince. The taste is again sweet from the many malts and the honry and finishes chamomile that makes this a good beer to relax with at night. well done otter creek.

500ml bottle. Filtered orange-tan color. Mellow sweet aroma, maybe a touch of honey in it. The taste is sweet and smooth, relatively crisp and well-balanced for a beer assumably devoid of hops. The chamomile works out quite well, and does not dominate or stand out awkwardly. Some honey comes through as well, particularly in the finish. An interesting beer, post-Midas Touch, and I actually find this one preferable, albeit a little less elegant.

22 ounce bottle from State Line. Pours a beautiful vibrant orange gold color. Clear with lazy carbonation. Thin head with decent retention and lacing. Aroma is earthy and nutty with honey and distinct floral notes. Taste is grainy and nutty with strong honey notes. As a previous rater points out... oatmeal cookie is spot on. Also some faint notes of chamomile and a very faint bitterness. Medium bodied and somewhat heavy on the tongue.
