Skeegle (293), USA Feb 23, 2008 Yup liked it. Pretty thin and weak, even for a porter. This is like decaffinated porter lite. There is a good deal of flavor however, even if it doesn’t linger with the swallow. Nice and light are really the only ways I can think to describe this guy, not bad.
JohnQPublic (105), Brooklyn, New York, USA Jul 26, 2008 Bottle (not the freshest). Pours an almost-but-not-quite-opaque darkest brown with a moderate offwhite head. Aroma is a bit roasty, smoky. Flavor is roasty coffee, cocoa, and a very noticable smokey note. Smoke manages to be the primary flavor while still nicely emphasizing the big, roasty malt. Hop profile is only hinted at at this stage of aging. Well done porter, great if you’re a big fan of smoked porters. Gregis (861), Overland Park, Kansas, USA Jul 11, 2008 Bottle purchased at John’s Grocery in Iowa City, IA. Pours a clear mahogany with a creamy off-white head. The nose is a nice blend of cocoa, coffee and roasted malt. Light bodied, thin and slick with a moderately bitter and mildly astringent finish. The flavor begins with bitter chocolate, coffee and roastiness backed by a quick hit of earthy/herbal hops in support, finishing with a lingering, roasty, hoppy aftertaste. This is a solid, quaffable brew, but I think it would be improved if they toned back the hop profile. It’s a rare porter that can pull off a significant hop contribution to the flavor profile. This one is borderline. Reed_944 (5), Jamesville, New York, USA does not count Jun 29, 2008 Another success from Otter Creek. Amazing savory palate as a result of a heavy malty flavor. Another one of my Otter Creek favorites, freshest out of a growler.
...This beer makes me feel like being on Jamesville beach on a cool summer day, except someone has stolen your watermelon and you forgot your flipflops. The sand is not conducive to walking. Mrthirstyneck (339), Minnesota, USA Jun 16, 2008 good porter here. Heavily toasted and roasted aromas which is a good thing. Poured a nice deep black/brown wit a decent enough head on it. Not overly creamy texture but the flavor and aroma were good enough for sure. JK (2369), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Jun 15, 2008 Dark brown. Roasted malt aroma and flavor, standard in that regard, but this has a palate that makes it above average.
