DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Nov 7, 2007 07-Nov-07 (12-oz bottle: Obtained 03-Aug-07 in trade with Otter, thanks Jeremy!) For a Belgian-style witbier, this light-golden beer is remarkably clear. The frothy, white head forms a half-inch cap and carbonation bubbles rise slowly in dozens of streams, aiding in the head retention, which is pretty impressive. The beer smells wheaty, malty and somewhat sweet, and traditional spices aren’t making much of an impact in the nose, so this beer immediately makes me think it’s not a traditional interpretation of the style. On the palate, the wheat base is evident in the attack, but the beer is honeylike and almost caramely in its sweetness. Hops does add a bit of balance in the evolution, and the finishing notes of coriander and orange peel are subtle at best, but the sweetness is what really jumps out as the main impression of this unbalanced beer. The medium body is heavier than traditional Belgian whites too, so this beer isn’t all that refreshing on the palate. Carbonation is medium-strong. The head eventually fades to a wide ring, but impressive, doily-like lacing covers much of the glass. Overall, the beer is drinkable, but not all that enjoyable and with the emphasis on sweet maltiness, it’s very much out of balance and certainly not to style. Speedle (262), Mid-Atlantic (Tour 2007-2008), Virginia, USA Nov 6, 2007 cloudy yellow with almost no head....ligt orange and yeast aroma, some light spices...sweet citrus flavor, yeasty palate with a watery syrup finish swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA Nov 4, 2007 bottle @ Ellicottville Beer Festival. Average wit. some coriander & citrus. drinkable but nothing real special blklab2007 (932), Connecticut, USA Nov 1, 2007 bottle poured a cloudy light golden in color with minimal carbination and a thin layer of head on the beer. smell is yeast, citrus peel, and some peppery spice. taste is on the thin side, has an interesting yeasty spice that takes over mid sip and follows through into the finish leaving a biting spice on the tongue. overall for the price it was pretty good, good wheat flavor gives the beer a light refreshing quality, definitely best cold, and had a good yeasty thing that actually left a yeasty film in the bottle after it was poured. FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 31, 2007 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy medium golden color with a large white head. The aroma was sweet, citrusy and musty. The flavor was dryish, musty and had a strong coriander element with a hint of citrus underneath. The finish was long, dry and spicy. dlovell2 (136), Columbia, Maryland, USA Oct 25, 2007 Light Golden color. Thin sudsy head, disappeared quickly. Yeast, spicy, hoppy aroma. Crisp, light citrusy taste with carriander. The best part of this beer is the distinct corriander taste, makes it very unique. Great on a hot summers day after you mow the lawn. Nihon (239), Vernon, Connecticut, USA Oct 17, 2007 Somewhat weak aroma...orange, spices, hops, other- in that order. Pale yellow color, although not "face bending"(Ambrose). Flavor...Medium bodied, Belgian inspired wheatiness, barely noticible hops and a hint of fruitiness. For 11.99 for a 12 pack, very well done. TheBeerBaron (218), Florida, USA Oct 15, 2007 Light gold color, frothy white head and a steady stream of tiny carbonation bubbles rising to the top. Sweet peach aroma, light wheat hint. Overall, very fresh and fruity, no hint of bitter hops. Citrus flvor with hiney or Vermont maple syrup to sweeten it further. Its tasty but not sicy (even a little) like other begium whites. I prefer them with more kick.
