Winter Red Ale has the traditional characteristics of a red ale with the addition of an ample amount of hops to create subtle bitterness and medium aroma. A perfect ale for a bitter winter evening.

Tap. Pours clear red with creamy off-white head; good retention and lacing. Aroma is toasted and caramel malts, dark fruit, and grassy hops. Flavor is balanced malt, hops, and esters; slightly sweet, dry finish. Medium body, carbonation, and warmth.

Bottle from sampler pack. Pours chill hazy ruby coppery with 1-finger off-white head. Nose is earthy caramel malkt, peaty hops, mild vinous fruit. Tastes earthy, caramelly, with mid hops, vinous fruit, and toffee.

UPDATED: FEB 9, 2012 12 oz bottle - Pours a dark red. Nice hop aroma for a red. Mixed with a hay malt scent. Good mix of hops and malts on the tongue. Good beer overall, but more Molly Ringwald than Kirsten Dunst.

From the four pack sampler case in a 12oz bottle. Pours nicely with a fair amount of head and pleasant aromas off the glass. Rich red hues hint of a full-bodied ale that doesn’t disappoint. The hops come through on the taste, somewhat on the strong side, but not overwhelming. Good choice for the winter and fall seasons.

Color is brownish orange. Smell is a little malty. Oh, first taste is quite alky. Bitter medicine and strongish. A little too much for this lager lover. Subtle is not the hops, almost comes across like a mild old ipa.

Otter Winter Beer #3. New seasonal pours out pretty reddish, without much head. Mild aroma, but taste fairly hoppy and bitter. Almost like an English bitter, but more carbonation. Easy drinking, better suited for autumn.

Amber with a white head. Malty, light fruity citrus hops, but mostly not citrus. Medium bodied. Sweet caramel malts, light pine and citrus hops, and a bit of bread. Too many of these winter ales are sub-five percent which makes little sense to me.

very much broomstraw and sweet with abundant hops and tastes of pine and some citrus. sticky sweet and caramel with moderately full body and foamy carbonation that is a bit chewy. some fruit flavors like cranberry only not as light or bright. perhaps like a sweet pomagranate.more satisfying then alluring.

Draft at Upper Deck Lounge - Pours a clear reddish amber in color and a small whitish head that produces a minor amount of lacing on the glass. Aroma is of caramel malts and pine hops. Flavor pretty much follows with the addition of some small amount of estery fruitiness. Medium bitterness that lingers into the finish. Very drinkable...
