4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 AaronDaniel (23) - Connecticut, USA - JAN 25, 2013This beer is hoppy (I don’t like "hoppy"). However, it’s subtley sweet caramel malt character balances this brew quite well. The grassy hops are checked by a pleasant hay malt. The dry finish lingers long rewarding your choice. This is easy drinking, comfort beer at it’s best.

From a bottle. Smooth and tasty. Medium aroma. Slightly bitter, slightly hoppy, light head and carbonation.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a clear copper color with a small white head. A light biscuit nose. Some caramel and light hops in the flavor, medium bitterness, overall big sweet earthy caramel.
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 VALIS (210) - Nashua, New Hampshire, USA - FEB 24, 2013
I don’t get much scent, faint floral hops, a little corn. Taste is mildly hoppy bitter, lingering aftertaste, became more of a fan the more sips I had.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Elwood (2491) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - FEB 17, 2013
Serving: 12 oz. bottle from Wegmans Leesburg. It pours a deep red color with a small off white head. Slight pine, soap, and bread notes in an otherwise weak nose. Lots of pine and resin in the flavor with a slight touch of bread from the malt side. A little thin on the palate and rather one dimensional.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 maxwelldeux (2220) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - FEB 8, 2013
Bottle. Pours a clear dark amber color with a moderate off-white head. Nose has some hoppiness to it, which is nice. Taste is actually a little bit bitter, with the hops coming through more than the malts. Interesting...
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 hockeybeerguy (212) - Portland, Maine, USA - JAN 8, 2013
The appearance was a nice dark amber with a slight reddish hue. The half inch white head slowly dissipated into the body with some spider web lacing here and there. The smell is sweet with a touch of caramel malts. The taste is sweet and bitter in different aspects melding the caramel malts with the hops, pretty good. It feels great on the palate, good balance in the mouth. I’d say this is very drinkable. Overall, this is a pretty good beer.

Bottle. Copper colored with a little red, light head. Nice caramel aroma. But not sweet. Medium body, plenty of carbonation. Light finish but some flavor. Pretty good all around.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 ben4321 (2990) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - DEC 23, 2012
Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 12/23/12, Rating #666 of 2012
Aroma: The nose is earthy, some toasted malts, light fruit, and some gherbal and pine notes
Appearance: It pours a mahogany color, mostly clear, with a small beige head, and some sticky lace
Flavor: It tastes a little sweet, with toasty malts, and a little bitter, leaning herbal over earthy hop-wise
Palate: This one has a medium body, it gets a hint watery, but it feels clean and smooth, with a short finish
Overall Impression:
I’m slowly inching my way toward 100 Amber ratings, 6 more to go. As for the beer, this one was fairly run of the mill. The nose had some promise that the taste didn’t quite live up to. Still though, this is a nice looking beer, with some decent component and a solid enough mouthfeel, so it’s certainly not a complete loss.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20 Cakes (306) - New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 19, 2012
12 oz bottle
Poured a very deep amber in color with a large, creamy, dense, head that diminished but lasted throughout. Sparkling. Very nice lacing. lightly bitter. Tastes of malt, with a nice hop balance. Medium body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Malt and hop finish is lightly bitter. Very appealing nose. Not an overdone or spicy winter ale.
