3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a slightly dark caramel with absolutely no head, just a small blob of large bubbles and some thin lacing. Nose is surprisingly fruity, with strong plum/raisin sherry-like character, plus a faint hint of yeast bite and some mild English hop leathery funkiness. Starts smooth and full on the palate but buckles halfway through, ending a bit thin but with a decent hop bite for a bitter, mildly grassy and herbal. Goes down easy, with well hidden strength for an ESB. Palatable.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Apr. 3, 2008; pint+ bottle purchased for $5 at Chanatry’s Market, Utica, NY. Murky-brown pour; big caramel-candy aroma. Notes of ripe fruit. Pretty full-bodied for the style, with medium bitterness. Seems quite sessionable. Would definitely have this again.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a cloudy caramel color with no head and little carbonation. The nose is molasses and creme brulee with a slight yeasty tinge. The flavor is light caramel with a definite bitter finish. Not very full-bodied and a little light for me. Not bad.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a light brown color, close to the color of apple cider and the fruity notes make the aroma reminiscent of it as well. Thin, off white head. Malty flavor of caramel with coffee and nuts hints in the aftertaste. A crisp beer that’s light but still manages to pack in some flavor.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
500mL bottle. Nice amber orange pour with a cream-colored head. Smells of brown sugar, hops, and spice. Tastes of molasses, spice (coriander), and slight brown sugar with an underlying bitterness. Finish is bittersweet. Balanced with a complex flavor -- very good.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This poured with very little head into a tall pint glass and appeared to be an interesting color of red-brown-and gold when held to the light. I liked the ESB style that came forward in a rich aftertaste. This would have been good for casual sipping with a fat roast beef hero.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: APR 23, 2008 Recently, I had the opportunity to attend a formal beer rating and be in charge of pouring the beers! Of course everything I poured I also got to sample afterward, and this was the first of ten beers on the list. I am huge fan of the premium bitters style and this is a perfect example, quintessentially English. It pours a hazy amber/mahogany, almost rust color and smells fruity and slightly floral, with a faint whiskeyish tinge. Wonderful malt/hop balance and just the right amount of yeast and bitterness, with a nice-mellow finish. I have since bought this beer many times. It is a perfect sit-sown session beer, extremely fresh and thirst-quenching.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle 500ml. Pours a copper brown with a rich off-white head. Sweet aromas of caramel and dark fruits. Wonderful malts come through in the caramel, molasses and black cherry flavours. Full on flavours, nothing subtle about them. Hops kicking in on the finish for a good bitterness. Fairly full-bodied with light to medium carbonation.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark red copper with a an off white head. Very mild nose of toffee, bananas, and hops. Round on the palate with just enough carbonation to keep it from tasting flat. Not a whole lot going on here except the nice straightforward bitter hops on the finish. I taste maybe a hint of cherry where the malt is supposed to be, that’s about it. Simple, but I’ve had a lot worse.
