4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: FEB 7, 2007 Otter Brewery has created some of England’s most amazing handmade British artisinal Ales indeed! No wonder the entire portfolio of their beers have won awards. Otter Head is a low-foaming English Strong Ale which pours a dark ruddy copperish brown colour with a light creamy, off-white head. Malt is in the foreground with a nice aroma on the nose and a toffee like flavor and spice darkness. Also I recognized quite a bit of hoppiness for its style. There was a slight hint of liquorice. On the palate it is smooth and medium to full-bodied, with a real bite of assertive English hops dominating, over a truly rich, and flavourful fudge-like malt. Leafy, Iron and mineral hoppiness comes crawling in pleasantly again, leaving the finish full of hop tanginess, very clean and bitter. Amazingly smooth for a 5.8% ABV. This award winning beer has proven itself and will remain on my list of regulars indeed.

Clear copper color with small tan foam. aromas of fresh ground malt, dusty flour, grains and hay. Palate, full body, thick-ish texture and sweet sugary finish. Taste, sweet of malt, biscuits and grains (simple). Overall, sticky, sickly sweet, not esiest beer, nice but not for me.

Appearance-light copper brown with disappearing golden foam, aromas- sweet malt, dates, and caramelised chestnuts (marrons Glacés). Palate- medium to full bodied, quite flat and quite sticky and oily in texture. Taste- malt, simple, dissapointing. Overall- great aromas but somewhat lacking in palate and flavour.

From the cask at Reading Beer Festival 2016. Complex, malty and clean, and tasty and well rounded beer. Otter have gone up in my estimation.

Aroma: caramel, bread malts, grain. Appearance: clear amber, small, off-white, frothy head. Taste: light sweet. Palate: malts continue and remain very dominant, some unspecified fruitiness coming up, soft carbonation. Overall: very nice aroma, bit weak palate, but overall OK English "Strong" Ale. Chelmsford Summer Beer Fest. Cask. Light haze on this deep amber beer. Residual bubbly pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry. Mild fine carbonation. Rich malts but not heavy. Good semi sweet dark toffee. Ripe fruits blend well with the toffee. Traces of hard candy fruits and sweet esters. Toucb of floralness. Light finish. Dark toffee lingers on. Good stuff.

Half-pint at the 2014 Lincoln Beer Festival. Good looking dark, deep brown beer with a full white crown on top. Malty from the start, this is a fruity, wholesome brew that oozes flavour. The hops keep the maltiness in check to produce a lovely blend that is easy to drink, mildly bitter towards the finish.
