Commercial Description:
Bottled, filtered, Occasional;
The purest spring water drawn from the River Otter is used to brew this traditional 19th Century-style IPA with a bit of a twist. Handcrafted with English floor malts and our very own yeast, we have added five of the US Pacific Northwest's most citrus-flavored, aromatic whole cone hops to create a new, complex, highly drinkable beer.

Quenching bitterness from the forest floor! A bit of pine, but real deep earthiness. Toasted malt interplay, but this is really about the spicy, leathery, woody hop action. Totally drinkable, doesn’t go down like 6.8%. Yummy.

Pours amber with a modest head yet keeping it’s hat on with a slight bit of lace around the edge. Aromas of sweet musty herbs. Medium full nectar with good carbonation creates and almost creamy sensation. This brew is round and fat, rich and creamy. Mildly sweet and moderately herbaceous this IPA is soft. I don’t really think they got what they were looking for. The astringency is the only U.S. trend going on here. The aroma doesn’t tell the story very well nor does the flavor. The finish is a bit bitter and unbalanced, very musty like aged Limburger cheese and old worn socks.

(16.9oz bottle, courtesy of blutt59) Pours an amber body with a small off-white head. Aroma of floral, caramel, and oven toasted biscuits. Flavor of well water with strong iron, caramel malt, and floral hops.

Bottle. Aroma has more malt and mellow ipa aroma like those from across the pond. Amber body with off white head. Flavor didn’t have the crispness to it. Sweet malt more than the hoppy citrus. Somewhat watery and acidic. Alright on the palate. Maybe best if paried with food.

16.9oz bottle-pours a thin white head and amber color. Aroma is pine hops, sweet medium malt. Taste is sweet medium malt-caramel, herbal/earthy/slight pine hops-slightly bitter. Thanks to Joe-jwc215 for picking this out.

A somewhat soft pour into my 25cl tulip glass produces a two-finger thick, pale tan colored head. The beer is a reddish amber color that shows an almost brilliantly clear, faintly orange tinged, red-copper hue when held up to the light. The aroma is nicely hoppy and expressive enough to be noticeable as I am visually inspecting the beer. Aromas of orange zest, milk-weed, a definite herbal edge and some grassiness. This has a sharp, grassy / herbal note that doesn’t quite work, but it is muted enough that it doesn’t hold back the aroma too much.

This has a nice, soft mouthfeel to it that is picked up just a bit by a tickle of carbonation. Distinct flavors of freshly grated orange zest is backed by a grassy / herbal hop component. The malt, which definitely plays a secondary role here, provides a touch of caramelized sweetness that accentuates both the citrus notes and a touch of berry like flavors, it also picks up a touch of toffee in the finish along with a soft, toasty grain note. The beer finishes with a slightly green, sort of mint-like, lingering hop bitterness that is fairly soft for an American IPA, but is at perfect levels to provide a hop focused balance to the finish of this beer. I really like the texture of this beer, it has a light carbonation (especially by American standard), which really helps to boost the velvety texture of this beer.

A tasty beer, and it is perhaps the hoppiest beer I have had out of England (this last isn’t saying much as my experience is woefully inadequate in this regard). The hop notes seem a touch green around the edges and this detracts just a bit; a touch more sharp, almost astringent and under-ripe somehow than I would prefer.
