3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
On draft: Awesome hoppy beer, pours dark golden with adequate lacing. Intense citrus hop flavor is to the forefront with a modest malt sweetness. Not quite balanced right but I found myself going back for more till I was seeing double (D’s).

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a light yellow color – slightly cloudy with a below average head, and below average lacing and slightly under carbonated. Smells strong citrusy floral hops with not much malt aroma coming through. First taste is extremely hoppy and bitter. Finishes with a lovely bitter after taste. A good DIPA.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
What appears to be a super fresh bottle directly from the brewery courtesy of my boy C.D. Aroma is an earthy floral hop that goes from alcoholic flower petals to damp morning dew on the earth. Really great smallish carbonation lifts away an astringent bitterness that would otherwise be overwhelming. There is a fruitiness here that is reminiscent of unripened mango in the middle and finishes with a lemon/lime twist of acidic bitterness. Would be great with just a touch of sweetness somewhere. A nice beer, glad I got to try it. Thanks Otto’s. 2011 22oz.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A nice, highly hopped double IPA. Appearance/palate thin for a double IPA. Alcohol presence is a bit over-the-top, but it is a double IPA, so what do I expect? There are other IPA competitors out there who can top this for flavor, but if I had it on a deserted island I would not turn away from the Double D (or maybe 2 for balance).

This beer is extremely hoppy. Great hop aroma and the flavor is really distinct. Gotta be in the mood to have it, but it’s worth waiting for the right time.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Tried the Pale Ale - Great! Then I tried the Double D IPA, overwhelming alcohol and lacking flavor. Missing any malt character and lack of a hop finish. This beer may warm you, but stay with the Pale Ale. Very disappointing.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Citrus, hops, and grapefruit aroma. Taste is the same as the aroma. Has a tangy and bitter taste. Has an orange amber colour. Decent IPA but I’ve had better.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 oz bottle poured a hazy orange with a tight white head. Aromas of zesty citrus hops with some light floral backing, sweet malt and light dough. Flavor is initially fairly bitter and hoppy but that almost immediately yields to a very strong sugary sweetness with faint caramel malt background. The back end of the flavor is all citrus and candied fruit with some moderate alcohol warmth.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tulip glass from bottle.
Pours an amber red color with a fluffy white head. Floral and citrus in the nose, with ruby grapefruit, tangerine, and navel orange on the tongue. Red honey, sweet and tasty in the finish.

For a double IPA, I wasn’t too thrilled with the seeminly lack of complexity with this one. It had a good hop profile and a nice bitiness too the ABV; however there was a lack of malt backbone that other Doubles exhibit.
