Commercial Description:
Jolly Roger himself smoked the malt for this Imperial Stout. This is a massive stout with a huge roasted maltiness and complex smoky, chocolate flavors coming through strong thanks to the gentle handpump and correct cellar temperature.

Noogfest ’08. The body was perfectly black with a khaki colored head. The aroma was sweet chocolate and pancakes. There was also some sweet berry character. The taste was coffee with some burnt bread crust. Fairly subtle and pretty drinkable for the style.

Tap at HDG - viscous black beer, with a thick tan lace - almost spicy, woody aroma, with some smoky, almost meaty notes to it - thick, oily mouthfeel - sweet up front, but some cocoa bitterness, alcohol, and mild spicy character squash it pretty fast - after that it becomes seriously smoky and almost woody, which I loooooved - I wish more impys used smoked malt.

A black appearance with a nice tan head. The aroma is contains a lot of coffee, chocolate, licorice, and dark fruit. The flavor contains some cocoa powder, coffee, and a hint of alcohol. Overall a well balanced nice impy stout.

Bottle at Noogfest 08 thanks to Tronraner. Pours black with a nice brown head. Complex aroma of port, chocolate, and dark roasted malts. On the lighter side of full bodied with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Flavor of molasses, dark roast, and dark bitter chocolate. Finishes slightly boozy. Well done sipper beer.

22oz bottle poured at Noog4. This stuff is Black. Plenty of roasty aromas as the dominant smell. Nice flavor. Very lightly sweet and that sweetness is blended well with the roasted grain and molasses like malt. Good. Full body and semi-dry finish.

This was a decent IRS that to me just seemed middle of the road...well to my spoiled palate at least....still a darn good beer.....fairly strong roasted malt flavors and has a bit of smokeyness to it but not overpowering at all or even super promenent in the flavors still wish that it finished a bit drier than I would prob rate it a bit higher....but thanks to kramer17801 for giving me this beer in a trade!
