Slipstream (734), USA Apr 7, 2008 Thanks to Adrian for another mighty beer! This pours black as a stormy night with a rich, light brown head. The label displays a funny skull and crossbones. Why do so many beers have scary/spooky labels? I guess it appeals to the immature male mind. The aroma is full and sweet. Smooth mouthfeel and low carbonation. Strong coffee and hops flavors, but still plenty of malt sweetness too. This is balanced, chewy, and tasty - a strong, but not overwhelming stout. Nice work, Otto’s! BDR (2139), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Apr 4, 2008 A pitch black pour with wisps of white head. Smokey aroma with milk chocolate burnt malt and a little anise perhaps. A very smokey body with more of that faint licorice amid the usual impy stout suspects. Creamy body. crizay (1050), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA Mar 30, 2008 Black pour, medium brown head. Aroma is smoke bigtime, licorice and chocolate. Flavor is very smokey, lots of licorice, anise, bittersweet chocolate, coffee and a big hoppy finish. Really a lot of smoke in here killing the other flavors. Body is a little on the thin side and almost undercarbonted thinness to it. Very aggressive with the smoke and just unbalanced but still not bad. Thanks to Kramer and Adrian for bonuses of this. Oakes (8057), gone rambling, Vietnam Mar 22, 2008 Near black. Smells kind of green. Some beany notes, vegetal and underdeveloped chocolate. Full, meaty impy but underdeveloped malt sugars hurt both body and flavour and the overly hot finish is just out-of-place. unclemattie (2370), Georgia, USA Mar 19, 2008 22oz bottle. Pours dark brown/black. Dark brown head. Aromas of licorice, toasty, malty. Flavors of peat, smoke, roast. Body is medium. Lots of roasted smoke flavor. omhper (12153), Stockholm, Sweden Mar 18, 2008 Bottled, thanks kmweaver(?) - sorry my beer stash is messed up... Very black, opaque, small pale brown head. Aroma of chocolate and licorice. Sweet, dense and fruity with full body and thick viscous mouthfeel. Chewy and solid with tar and licorice, molasses and tobacco. Salty tarry finish. All powerful and very correct. bitbucket (2026), Kirkland, Washington, USA Mar 11, 2008 Bomber. Thanks after4ever! Pours opaque black with a creamy orange head. Creamy full body. Chocolate, licorice coffee and smoke in the nose and taste. Alcohol-edged aroma. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Mar 10, 2008 22. Thanks, KMWeaver! Black. Thin burnt tan head. Chocolate cream and roast on the nose. Medium, creamy body. Chocolate, roast, licorice, and alcohol on the mid-palate. Charcoal and booze on the finish.
