MrBendo (1039), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Jan 13, 2008 Bottle. Pours near black with a small head. Aroma of smoky malts, roasted coffee, prunes, liquorice and rubbing alcohol. Very smoky taste. Gets more complex as it warms. Chewy texture. Very nice. Braudog (3733), Dayton, Ohio, USA Jan 12, 2008 Draft at KClinger’s. Pitch black with a thin but dark tan head that clings just to the side. Vague roasty aroma. Smooth flavors that you’d expect, maybe even a hint of a bourbon barrel, but not over the top. Nice. Roasted malt and a bit of creamy smoke aroma. Black brown body with a medium-lasting creamy tan head. Smoky roasted malt flavour has a hint of bitter tin. Medium-full body is thick. Great imperial stout but not quite as impressive as anticipated.

Tons. I love the way the smell entices me in with deep, dark roasted malt notes, and beautiful bittersweet chocolate. I love the way the flavors bounce across my palate. So much is happening here. Latte, vanilla, chocolate, roasted malts, barbecue, smokiness. It’s like heaven in my mouth. I love how rich and creamy this beer is, and the I love the perfect bittersweet notes that finish it off. I love that this is a true Russian Imperial Stout, and not an overly hopped "Double Stout", which we see entirely too much of anymore. In short, I love this stout. Tons. toddbates (95), USA Jan 8, 2008 I had it at the brewpub and it was by far the best beer of the day. I was a little disappointed to find that my particular serving was lacking the thick, creamy head that I was expecting and had heard so much about... padrefan98 (787), (San Diego) Santee, California, USA Jan 7, 2008 22 oz bottle shared with wetherel. Very nice smokey flavors with malts, and some coffee. Pretty good. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Jan 7, 2008 22 oz bottle shared with wetherel. Lots of tan head on this dark dark pour. Flavors were very roasted malt. Dark fruit and coffee. Flavors were very similar. Anise in there too. Not too bitter on the finish. Good stuff. JAXSON (229), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 4, 2008 Enjoyed at the brewpup on nitro. The nitro is an interesting idea for this beer, it results in a really delightfully soft, bubbly mouthfeel, but cuts down too much on the carbonation, which loses a point for it in my book. The flavors are pretty big but mellowed out, roasty, chocolate, vanilla, some anise and spices. Very good.
