illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Aug 23, 2009 Bottle courtesy SamGamgee. Pours pitch black with the slightest of brown highlighting the edges. Light tan cap of dense foam. Lots of roastiness and dark chocolate, but the solid smoked character sets this one apart from your generic RIS. Flavor is ashy burnt malts, roasted coffee, the darkest possible chocolate, and a sweetish smokiness that complements the mild dark fruitiness. Nice complexity. Full chewy mouthfeel, very drinkable. EithCubes (2140), Indiana, USA Aug 19, 2009 Draught at Otto’s. The 2009 version from the beer engine. Darker tan head than the other two stouts I’ve had today and less of it (no nitro). Picking up more fig and plum in the aroma. Taste brings out sticky red berry as well, but avoids getting syrupy. Raisin, a few handfuls of unfermentables, plum, yum! Full-bodied but controlled. Alcohol kick reminds of bourbon (though I don’t think this is BA) and is gently warming. Depth, gentility, grace - Otto’s beers are all lovely! craftbeerdesign (731), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Aug 4, 2009 shared 2007 bomber with TheBeerSommelier - thanks!!! Big pitch black pour with an average tan head... deep, dark and black... slight roasted malt and deep oat aromas... but lacking overall in the strength on the nose... big chewy body with a lot of roasted malt, oats, some lingering deep coffee and chocolate.... the finish is dominated by licorice notes coating some chocolate malts... big, stiff and powerful ... very nice. daknole (2802), Plantation, Florida, USA Aug 2, 2009 DELICIOUS BOTTLE! Pours a black color with a light brown head. Tons of molasses, chocolate, coffee and prunes in the aroma. Flavor is thick and loaded with raisins, molasses, chocolate, coffee and great toasty notes. Fine impy! malrubius (969), Valley Stream, New York, USA Jul 31, 2009 Time to catch up before BCTC. Bottle at CL Rosso release. Thanks to all the RB’ers and BA’s that brought great beer. Dark black with head. Very roasty chocolate coffee with some dark fruit and bitter roasted finish. This was excellent. fonefan (10868), VestJylland, Denmark Jul 12, 2009 Bottle 66cl. @ home. [ Trade by acrdz ]. Clear dark black color with a average, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige to light brown head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, chocolate, bourbon notes, wood, vanilla. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is creamy, carbonation is soft. [20090628] danielcurtis81 (879), San Diego, California, USA Jul 5, 2009 Bottle courtesy of adrian910ss. Pours a creamy deep ruby brown with a small medium brown head. Rich roasted malts, candy sugar, raisin, prune, and oak to the flavors and nose. Creamy and smooth mouth . Alcohol is well muted but definitely there. Beerapprentice (111), Hopatcong, New Jersey, USA Jul 1, 2009 On cask at Ottos Pub and Brewery. Pours murky, muddy dark chocolate brown colour with a barely there tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, and licorice. Flavour of alcohol, bitter chocolate, raisins, plums and a hint of smokiness.. Has a bitter aftertaste. Went straight to my head after drinking 2 pints of Phoenix Kriek.
