Commercial Description:
Jolly Roger himself smoked the malt for this Imperial Stout. This is a massive stout with a huge roasted maltiness and complex smoky, chocolate flavors coming through strong thanks to the gentle handpump and correct cellar temperature.

To celebrate the return of Rate Beer, I decided to crack this baby for breakfast. Pours an oily looking opague black body with a nice looking foamy medium brown head. The aroma is a nice blend of coffee, milk choclate with some with some mellow sweet smoke. The flavors start off with a sweet creamy coffee taste and some milk chocolate with mild vanilla notes. It gradually becomes it bit stronger with the bitter coffee flavor but the creaminess keeps it very well balanced. Tasty stuff!!

Trade with Fonefan. It’s pitch black with a light brown, creamy and lasting head. The aroma has notes of chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruits, preserved figs and licorice with a hint of smoke. The flavour has a light sweetness and the mouthfeel is smooth, full and pleasant, and I find notes of dark fruits, preserved figs, chocolate, a lot of licorice and a light hint of smoke. It’s very nice, full-bodied and complex beer.

2007 version on cask at brewpub. Poured black with a medium sized tan head. Aroma of roasted coffee and chocolate. Tastes of roasted coffee, dark chocolate, like smoke, vanilla, smooth creamy mouth feel. I could have drank this all night. Very nice on cask.

Shared by AdamJohn. Kind man he is breaking this out. Thanks dude! Wasn’t the most impressive stout, but drinkable. It pours a lighter shade of black than most. White head with a burnt coffee flavor. Not too tastey, slightly overated I think..

Bomber courtesy of JB175. Pours an opaque crude oil black with a one finger creamy tan head and great lacing. Nose is smoky malt, cocoa, and light salty soy. Taste is cocoa, dried fruit, smoke, roasted espresso beans and molasses with a bitter salty black licorice finish. Alcohol is well hidden. Smooth, creamy full mouth feel. This is a really good IS. Thanks Jason!

22 oz. bottle - thanks to beerlando for the trade; maybe a year old? pours jet black with thin tan head; fresh, sharp aromas of chocolate and roasted malts; definitely some smoke; gentle and soft texture; a little creamy with a dry, sticky finish; pretty tasty overall

Bottle: Dark brown pour with a modest brown head. Sheets of sticky lacing. Chocolate and roasty scent. Coffee and dark fruits. Rich and savory sweet. Flavor is more roasted malts and chocolate with a molasses presence and a bit of coffee. No real bitters here. Perhaps a bit smokey... Overall very smooth and a rich flavor.

Have had this on tap at the brewpub and via 22 oz bottles. Deep chestnut brown with a super creamy mocha head. Strong coffee aroma and flavors, alot of chocolately malt, vanilla, and some burnt flavors as well. A bit heavy at times, but really full, rich, and tasty. Have had this on nitro and regular draft...nitro imparts a really soft, creamy quality to this that I just love.
