Commercial Description:
Jolly Roger himself smoked the malt for this Imperial Stout. This is a massive stout with a huge roasted maltiness and complex smoky, chocolate flavors coming through strong thanks to the gentle handpump and correct cellar temperature.

This Imperial Stout pours a deep black color from a 22oz bottle. Medium to small sized white foamy head. Aroma is chocolate and coffee. A medium bodied Imperial Stout. The malts are chocolate and coffee. The hops are earthy and floral. It has all those other flavors in here as well. some leather, smoke, some vanilla, and perhaps some soy. Nicely balanced Imperial Stout. Mouthfeel is soft and round, very nice. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Bottle. Black, creamy tan head. Modest aroma grows as it warms, bit of fruit, mild hint of roast, cocoa hints. (7+) Sweet malt flavour, dusty cocoa, very light fruit and roast malt hints. Light acidity to the finish, chocolate glimpses. Smooth average to medium palate (3+). Very nice, drinkable imperial stout but surprisingly mild.

Bottle in a trade. Pours a black body with a tan head. Sweet matly chocolate malt, caramel, a light peat note. Bitter chocolate to finish with a full body and some etoh.

Bottle. [Courtesy of Sk8viking] Small fizzy brown head mostly diminishing. Fair display of lacework. Pitch black. Heavy aroma of liquorish, chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruit. Medium to full bodied with a warming alcoholic texture and a soft carbonation. Moderated sweet flavour with light bitter notes. Heavy liquorish finish that lingers.

Draft at KClinger’s. Pitch black with a thin but dark tan head that clings just to the side. Vague roasty aroma. Smooth flavors that you’d expect, maybe even a hint of a bourbon barrel, but not over the top. Nice. (#3286, 1/10/2008)

[2007 Cask @ brewpub] Poured an opaque black color with a medium sized, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast, smoked malts, chocolate, some caramel malts, and a bit of dark fruit. Taste was woody, with chocolate, roast, light nuts, roast, with smoke, citrus hops, and a little bit of alcohol. Nice mouthfeel. The bottles really don’t compare to this beer on cask.

Bomber. Pours a nice deep almost black with a foamy lasting head. Aroma is very herbal, hoppy, green acetaldehyde, toasted malts, burnt acrid charred malts, and light roast. More green apple in the flavor, dry burnt malts, burnt toast, nutty, earth, herbal, lots of fresh hops, and actually not even all that smooth in the end. Im not sure if I have ever had a good bottle of this now that I think of it. BA version is so good, it is weird how the regular version is so much different.
