Naka (375), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 17, 2008 Bomber courtesy of Juart. Pours a deep amber color with a slight red orange hue. Has a small beige head that was pretty fizzy and gone quickly. A fruity grassy hop aroma with flowery citrus honey. Some grapefruit, but the bottle is a little older, so it is more really sweet ripe, than bitter. That being said, for the age of the bottle, the bitter has held in there. Some brown sugar and butterscotch. Very well-balanced. Has a pretty decent body. Not much carbonation, but a sort of oily texture. dpjuart (520), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 14, 2008 22 oz. bottle shared with Naka. Pours an iradescent orange with cherry red hues. Small, white, half finger head. Nose is bubblegum, citrus, floral and pine hops. Nice hop flavor, floral and citrusy. Balanced well with a sweet caramel backbone. Modrate to high bitterness at the end that lingers well into the after, the slips away quitely leaving you to want more. A good APA, and I’m sure it’s better fresh. This bottle was 8 months old. Dacrza (136), Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA May 17, 2008 Light orange body with a thin white head in a HopDevil glass... bright and efficient, with sporadic tracings on the glass... sharp spruce and hops, light and clean... bubbly and smooth on the palate--a bit creamy on the tongue... swift and pleasant... a bit on the lighter side of pale ales--surprising (and refreshing) from a micro! and yet, perhaps, this is the way one should taste... a mixture of feelings: another winner from Ryan, but this ale is a step below Sierra Nevada, not to mention the other Otto’s brews I’ve sampled--but it is solid, and who doesn’t love something with Mt. Nittany in its name!? kmweaver (1813), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA Apr 4, 2008 Draft @ Otto’s. Pours a bright golden-orange color; white head with solid lacing. Solid amounts of resiny oranges and passion fruit in the aroma; sweet, tree fruit (similar to the Nugget Pale Ale). Medium mouthfeel: slightly watery on the edges, but very drinkable; oranges, passion fruit (again, Nugget hops?); very pleasant, drinkable pale ale. Medium finish: oranges and a touch of sugar. BBB63 (3681), La Porte, Indiana, USA Feb 16, 2008 Bomber bottle and served in standard pint glass: Clean coppery hue with a fading frothy head but left very good lace upon the glassware. The aroma has notes of grassy and citric hops, dusty yeast esters, caramel and biscuity malt, slight clove and pepper, and a touch soapy. The taste starts moderately bitter but is quickly balance by sweet and grainy malts. Dry and chalky finish with just a hint of hop spice, a tad short on the palate. Overall a refreshing beer but not that deep, worthy of a try.
