3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On cask at brewpub. Poured a cloudy copper in color with a small dense head that left little lacing on the glass. Aroma is generally sweet with malts, citrus, and toffee. Light alcohol presence in the nose. Tastes of sweet malts, brown sugar, orange citrus, toffee, caramel, with a medium hop finish. Also in the finish there was some warming. Pretty nice.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On cask at Otto's. Poured into a snifter.
Dark copper pour with a light tan head. Really nice lacing.
The nose is raisins and alcohol. No hop character.
Flavor is raisin, treacle toffee, and a warm alcohol finish. A lightly bitter aftertaste though without any hop character.
Full mouthfeel. Light carbonation.
A nice Barleywine. Just the thing to end an evening with. I'd be curious to taste it a couple of years down the road, but it's good right now.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Transfer from BA review on 5-21-12 -
Served from hand pump in a snifter
Appearance – Poured a hazy orange color with a thin white head. The head faded fast leaving a thin ever persistent film and some very nice lacing.
Smell – The smell was big of bread and biscuit mixed with a huge boozy aroma. Mingling with these aromas was a lighter hay like/ grassy aroma and a moderate funky aroma.
Taste – The taste was rather disappointing overall. It was heavy on a biscuit and bread like flavor at first. The taste was on the dryer side with only a very light amount of sweetness. This was a base of the taste and the only real change in the taste occurred toward the middle to end where a very heavy alcohol flavor came to the tongue. This alcohol was not too pleasant however and instead was more on the burning side of the flavor profile leaving a very cheap boozy flavor on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The mouthfeel was quite nice. It was creamy in body with a lower level of carbonation. Very good taste penetration due to the nice mouthfeel, which if the beerwould have tasted better, would have been wonderful.
Overall – Otto’s for the most part does a wonderful job with most of their brews. While the look and mouthfeel of this brew were fantastic, the rather funky aroma and quite offensive alcohol and uni-dimensional flavor leave much to be desired. This is one they have to work on a bit.

3.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
On cask at brewpub. Hazy gold with thick cream head. Aroma is caramel and slight mustiness--strange. Flavor is sweet caramel, brown sugar, and wood (almost tastes like a barrel-aged barleywine). Delicious.
