hopdog (5527), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 28, 2008 On tap. Poured a deeper amberish/ brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of nuts, caramel, and just all around malty. Tastes of nuts, brown sugar, caramel, and toffee, and doughy. Lacking left on the galss. mj (4973), Colorado, USA Dec 20, 2006 Updated: Apr 1, 2009Really has a wonderful smell and taste to it, as if it’s infused with some dried black cherries and cranberries. The toasted wood, rum and sweet molasses and maple are just astounding. Flavorwise it’s disimilar from the aroma, heavy and full on the tongue, a perfect blend of roasted chocolate-like malts and sweet maple and dried dark fruit. Really good, without being insanely different or highly hopped or high gravity. Color is dark brown, almost a bit red as well. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 26, 2007 Draft at Otto’s. Deep coppery color with off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, brown sugar, figs, some spices and hops. Tastes dark malty, with brown sugary notes, some nuts, figs, blackberries, and a rich, smooth finish. The blackberry notes don’t overtake the malt, which remains throughout in full force. Another well done brew from one of my favorite brewers of all time. Braudog (3733), Dayton, Ohio, USA Jan 12, 2008 Draft glass at KClinger’s. Burnt amber with virtually no head. The aroma is of cooked brown sugar. Light up front, this predominately comes across wtih a cooked vegetable alcoholyness. Not a lot of body here and the alcohol takes on a bit of a funk as it warms. (#3280, 1/9/2008) egajdzis (3602), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 28, 2008 [Draft @ Capones] Poured a dark brown color with a thin light tan head that left no lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, dark fruits, and light cocoa. Taste of more roasted malts, sweet chocolate, molasses, raisins, and light alcohol in the finish. Rciesla (3500), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Dec 8, 2008 Draft at capones. Pours a dark brune body with a tan head. Sweet chocolate and lager notes. Sweet malty musky and a light medicinal cherry flavors. eh. austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA Feb 2, 2008 One of Otto’s best. On tap at brewpub. Really strong beer with lots of flavor. Rich, sweet. Very sweet. Thick. Delicious. Try this one. Nate (2533), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 18, 2007 On tap at Otto’s. Very mild aroma. Sweet malt, macerated raisins, and a tangy soy component. Light fruity hops. Caramel and toffee. Coppery amber, crystal clear, with thin head. Medium-heavy body with medium-light carbonation. Starts sweet, with a ton of malt, light alcohol notes, raisins, plum, and toffee. Sweet, almost cloying, with a bit of dry bitterness at the end. Decent, but falls short of what I’ve experienced in other doppelbocks. Soy tangy after.
