Sturdy, off-white head is impressive considering it’s probably 3 months old. Nice smoky aroma mixed with an odd note of white glue (huh?) Thin but soft mouthfeel. Hoppy bitterness and quick tart-smoky bite to finish. Good stuff. Ty5592 (1015), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

Smooth smokey taste with some tobacco notes. Nice malt profile with medium smokeyness in the finish. One of the better smoked beers I’ve had. CaptainCougar (5441), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Nice, smoky aroma explodes out of the glass with a touch of caramel. Starts fairly full and sweet with a nice smoky character and a smooth, earthy bittersweet finish. A nice, true to style rauchbier. dmac (1449), Toms River, New Jersey, USA

Poured a dark reddish/brown with a nice frothy white head. Aroma was lots of smoke but not harsh it was just dominant compared to the other aromas. The smoke wasn’t as dominant in the flavor but was still there. Very nice stuff for something handbottled at a brewpub several minths ago. Saarlander (1577), Rancho Cucamonga, California, USA

Smelled nothing when poured, let it sit for a couple minutes, then roasted malt, smoke jumped out. Nice drinking smoked beer, not overpowering at all, but flavorful, abit sweet, but that was ok, god I can’t wait to get home again, and try more Rauchbier! | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 6, 2007 Shared by Paul (dickinsonbeer) at the CL RB gathering. Brown in color. Aroma is toasty, lightly roasted malts, caramel with a touch of smoke. Smoke is more pronounced in the taste, not overpowering and a nice compliment to the malt- light roasted malts, carame. Finishes lightly bitter. PilsnerPeter (2617), Flushing, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 5, 2007 Growler: Pours a copper color with an off-white head. The aroma isn’t that smokey, just has some light bacon notes. The flavor is a bit more pronounced in terms of smoke, yet there still isn’t enough. The malt profile is decent with a more bready/toasty character than smoked. Also has a hint of bitterness in the finish. A balanced, malty brew, but not really smoked enough. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 23, 2007 Tap at brewpub. Pours a nice woody deep copper and a foamy sticky almost white head. Aroma is woody, campfire smoke, and lightly smoked meats. Smoke isnt overpowering, but is smooth all around and is very enjoyable. Goes well with some sweet malts in the flavor, light roast, caramel, nuts etc. Full mouthfeel, and very savory. Smooth with no medicinal character which is nice. Great rauchbier.
