awaisanen (1116), Irvine, California, USA Apr 22, 2008 From a 22oz Bottle. Courtesy of CharlesDarwin. Mostly transparent, deep red, caramel hued pour with a thin finger of creamy off-white. Beautiful color, but the carbonation level is a bit low, and thus the head suffers some. Graham cracker malt aromas along with some minty hops. Baked chocolate chip cookie dough malts. Clean. Medium bodied, lightly carbonated mouthfeel with a soft, smooth texture. Flavors of caramel, brown sugar, and graham cracker malts up front on the palate. Restrained grapefruit hop flavors come out toward the finish, but really serve to dry up the malts. Lightly fruit, lightly hoppy, plenty malty, but not too sticky. Slightly undercarbonated, but the flavors are good for an amber ale. Thanks, Tom!
urbeer (40), Lo, Belgium Jun 30, 2008 Thx to brad. Bottle 1pt 6fl oz. Poured a clear reddish ale with a nice creamy head. Nice hoppy aroma with hints of pine, and some grapefruits. A malty flavour that I like very much, with hints of caramel, some fruits. Medium bodied and well balanced, nice carbonation.
Glouglouburp (1876), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 13, 2008 In short: Crisp and dry fruity red ale. Very good,
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Clear redish-copper body with a very small beige head
In long: Some red fruits on the nose with strawberries being a dominant one. Taste was like an unsweetened breakfast jam. Lots of red fruits in the taste yet the beer didn’t feel juicy and was actually surprisingly dry. Nice session beer with a crisp freshness feel. I could drink pints and pints of that stuff. A way way way above average Amber Ale, although this style definition is about as loose as an always-drunk sorority girl. 1FastSTi (2357), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Apr 8, 2008 Thanks Jason. The beer pours to a brown reddish body with a light tan head. The aroma is quite hoppy with grapefruits and pine and a good sweet brown sugar malt. The flavor is more malty than the aroma would allude to. The nice bitter hops are mostly gone in the flavor. Lots of cereals, subtle chocolate malt, and some sort of sweetened but normally tart fruit. Perhaps coffee fruit? Simple palate that’s pretty balanced. DavidP (1698), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Apr 8, 2008 Bottle shared by Jason. Clear red body, small tan head. Aroma of brown sugar, crystal malt and the acidity of grapefruit juice. The flavor retains some of the same sweetness but layers on a good dose of musty grapefruit rind and bright red fruits. A nice hoppy amber ale.
